1. Smoking Among Pregnant Women WV has the highest rate in the nation of smoking among pregnant women. Nearly 29%, compared to national average of about 11%. Rate has continued to increase over the past several years, despite attempts to address this.

2. Smoking and Pregnancy Advisory Council Coordinated by the WVDHHR/DTP Seeking ways to address the high rate of smoking among pregnant women, held strategic planning session on May 19. Producing a new DVD to be distributed to healthcare providers and others. WVHA, with funding from DTP will be coordinating at least 5 Tobacco Cessation Trainings for Healthcare Providers. Training faculty from Marshall University, headed by Dr. Brenda Dawley. Free – CMEs and CEUs offered.
