3 1.Introduction to Forcepoint DLP Overview of Forcepoint DLP: Data Loss or Leak Prevention (DLP) is a way to stop important information from being stolen, lost, misused, or seen by people who shouldn't have access to it.

4 How Data Loss Happens:  Malicious Insiders: Trusted people like employees, vendors, or partners might misuse their access to steal data.  Exfiltration: This is when data is moved from a secure network to an outside location, often due to cyberattacks like phishing or malware.  Negligence: Data loss can also happen by accident. For example, employees might share sensitive information by mistake, lose physical devices like laptops, or fail to properly secure files. Bad software settings and weak passwords can also make it easy for criminals to steal data. How DLP Solutions Work: Data Loss or Leak Prevention (DLP) software helps protect sensitive information by using various tools and techniques.  Identifying Data: DLP starts by finding and marking sensitive information in the system.  Monitoring for Leaks: It continuously watches data to detect any unauthorized movement or misuse.  Protecting Data in Motion: As data moves between locations, DLP ensures it reaches its destination safely.  Securing Data at Rest: Data stored in databases or the cloud is protected with encryption and access controls.  Protecting Data in Use: DLP prevents unauthorized changes, copying, or sharing of data by monitoring how users interact with it.

5 Data Loss Prevention Solution provides controls to manage who can send what data where, and how.
