 Cisplatin as anti-cancer activity

Cisplatin was explored in 1845 by ‘Michele Peyrone’ but in 1965 Dr. Barnett Rosenberg discovered its inhibiting cell division property. It gets approval for clinical use in 1978. Cisplatin, or cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II), is a well-known chemotherapeutic drug. It has been used for treatment of numerous human cancers, including bladder, head, neck, lung, ovarian, and testicular cancers

 Cisplatin was first metal based anticancer drug, It is used for wide range of solid cancers such as testicular, ovarian, bladder, lung, cervical, head and neck cancer, gastric cancer and some other cancers. Studies confirmed that cisplatin exerts its anticancer activity by attacking more than one place. It generally binds with genomic DNA (gDNA) or mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) to create DNA lesions.  Cisplatin coordinates to DNA and that this coordination complex not only inhibits replication and transcription of DNA, but also leads to programmed cell death (apoptosis).

 Carboplatin anti-cancer Drug  Carboplatin is used to treat various types of cancer. It is a chemotherapy drug that contains platinum. It is used to slow or stop cancer cell growth.

 Carboplatin is used for the treatment of ovarian cancer, head and neck cancer, and also small cell lung cancer. Because cisplatin and carboplatin have similar efficacy, the most appropriate use of carboplatin is in those with impaired renal function, those who are unable to tolerate high-volume hydration, or who are at high risk for neurotoxicity or ototoxicity.

 The side effects of carboplatin is much reduced as compared to cicplatin, so it is more preferred. Although it has drawback is that it causes blood cell and platelet output of bone marrow to reduce significantly.

 Oxaliplatin is a chemotherapy drug. It’s a treatment for a number of different types of cancer. It pronounce oxaliplatin as ox-ali-pla-tin.usually have oxaliplatin in combination with other cancer drugs.  Oxaliplatin Drug

Oxaliplatin

 Oxaliplatin is a platinum group metal complex, which is a new generation of platinum antineoplastic drugs after cisplatin and carboplatin. Oxaliplatin, also known as platinum oxalate.
