1 Analysis Of Honour Killing By Imtiaz Dharker. >>> How to write an essay? Order on the website HelpWriting.Net <<<. Analysis Of Honour Killing By Imtiaz Dharker Poetry: Honour Killing Textual Commentary Honour killing is a poem written by Imtiaz Dharker which depicts the struggles of women within countries in the middle– east that oppress women whether it be verbally or physically, and Dharker being a Pakistani woman expressed her views through this piece of work. An honour killing is the act of taking someone's life who has disrespected themselves and their family, an example of this is a Pakistani woman who was shot by her family because she wanted to divorce the man she was with. The true difference between a western culture and a middle eastern culture can be shown in the fact that the Pakistani senate refused to condemn what happened to this woman and deemed it an honour killing. The poem is an outcry for freedom for woman who are being oppressed and kept down by cultural ideas within the countries which commit these acts. The main objective of this poem is to illustrate how woman within middle eastern countries (possibly more of the world) are kept down by certain aspects of society such as cultural aspects or religious aspects, Dharker wanted to bring this issue into the light through means of poetry. A concept which most people around the world want to have is patriotism as it shows loyalty to a country and also represents a home, however a rather large perception throughout the poem is a sense of wanting to strip away the patriotism. The first time Dharker represents the notion of wanting to be rid of a society's expectations is in the line "I'm taking off this veil, this black veil of a faith" The woman who is speaking here is describing taking off her veil which in some middle eastern countries can be an offence to religious beliefs; the poem shows that women within these countries feel like they are being forced into situations which aren't fair to them, for example honour killings. The way Dharker writes is to inform the audience of serious issues which are more than relevant in modern society, she wants to make the reader see how women are treated differently and how they need to strip away at their own beliefs just to feel like they can fit in when they should be able to fit in no matter where they are living. Individuality also plays a role in what >>> Get more content on Helpwriting.net <<<

Essay on The Issue With Honor Killings Around the world there are many situations that the human race has to deal with and one of them is honor killings. This is an issue that has not been completely touched upon because it is not and an issue that everyone gets to see. The main idea is to understand what an honor killing is and what's its status around the world but specifically to the country that is Pakistan. One main point that should be remembered is that it is all based off of tradition and not religion. A honor killing is a violent action towards a person that has brought shame or dishonor to their family (What Is Honor Killing). Honor killings can be considered to be an awful crime or a tradition that a small community can have. These crimes are usually directed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net... For these women there really is no recovery because there is no second chance for them after their mistake. In addition, it is not as if they are able to run to other women in their own community for safety. Some women support the idea of other women being tortured especially if these women deserve it. Although most of the honor killings are being based off by women's mistakes there are cases where women are just being mistreated because the one responsible finds it normal or acceptable to hurt his wife or sister. This is not what happens in most cases but there are some that are rare cases in that sense. Honor killings is a problem that the whole world needs to deal with and has to strive to make sure that the lives of women are worth more than a simple mistake. There are places like India and Pakistan that have so many women die each year because of their traditions, and it all starts at a young age. A 2010 study showed that most honor killing victims are around the ages of 15– 25 (What Is Honor Killing). This is an action that is affecting young women especially ones that are probably child bribes in other countries such as Pakistan, Iran, Israel, and so many more. The young girls are simply not ready to be part of the household life –style. The husbands can decide to do what they please with these young girls. Furthermore, most of the honor killings are happening around the world because these cultures or communities >>> Get more content on Helpwriting.net <<<

The universal interpretation is rather a feminist argument that focuses on patriarchy. Honor killing is regarded as masculine homicide, where women are the main targets. Females must obey males and therefore, men have a right to control women and make any decision necessary to maintain/protect honor in his family. Essentially, this perspective is based on the idea that a woman is property of her family. Honor becomes an obsession and "a biased scale both men and women use to judge all women." The problem with honor killings has to do with "domination, power and hatred of women". They are seen as servants to the family–physically and sexually. >>> Get more content on Helpwriting.net <<<

7 Writing Essay Services - " HelpWriting.Net ". Honor Killings Essay Honor Killings For thousands of years women have been looked down upon in society and have not been treated as equals. It wasn't very long ago that women in America weren't allowed to have jobs or vote, men were always the leaders. Just tonight my father was saying how when he was growing up if you talked back to your father or husband you would be punished, and that was only about thirty or forty years ago. I believe that today's American woman take their freedom for granted. In some cultures women still do not have the privilege of being considered an equal and have no rights. In countries where Islam is practiced they have honor killings, where "woman are murdered by their families each year in the name of family "honor."... Show more content on Helpwriting.net... These are all normal, ok things for us. However in places such as "Bangladesh, Great Britain, Brazil, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Pakistan, Morocco, Sweden, Turkey, and Uganda," if you were a woman and you did any of these things you would be killed, and by your own family. The worst part is that it's not only the men that support this, but also "the females in the family – mothers, mother– in– laws, sisters, and cousins...It's a community mentality." I think the women agree with honor killings because they are afraid of what will happen to them if they stand up for themselves or for any other woman. The fact is that they will be killed themselves if they do. One point in the article, which I found unacceptable, relates to chapter five in the text about marriage. "In India, more than 5,000 brides die annually because their dowries are considered insufficient, according to the United Nations Children's Fund." If this is going to happen either the United Nations Children's Fund should remove this statement, or dowries should not be used in Indian marriages anymore. This may be considered ethnocentrism on my part but women are human beings and deserve the right to live life and not be afraid. In my opinion honor killings are wrong. This scenario highlights the need to have interpreters that are well versed in local customs and culture, had any of the soldiers or interpreters been dialed into the fact that what the two young elopers were doing would be grounds for an honor killing they would likely choose a different COA. I'm also interested in the timeline that this case occurred, I know early on in the conflict US service members were not clued in on the honor killing to restore a family 's name and reputation but after a couple of high profile cases here in the States I would think that someone might have seen the danger in allowing the father to see his daughter. The soldiers were no doubt applying the golden rule in allowing the father to see his daughter. Persuasive Essay On Honor Killing There are many ways that honour killings are a breach of human rights, including the right to life, liberty, and to pursue happiness, the right to recognition as a person before the law, and freedom from torture, and degrading treatment. Honour killings are the murder of women because they have been perceived to dishonour a family in some way, and by killing them, their family honour is restored. It is prevalent in countries like Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan. Mostly occurs in countries where the majority religion is Muslim, and they believe that it is okay to kill family members. Can also occur in South and Eastern Asian countries. One way that honour killings breach human rights through reserving the right to life, liberty, and to pursue happiness. The people that commit these crimes generally don't get punished or found, as the family does not report the death. The people who go get caught in Muslim countries will most likely get a reduced sentence in jail, as it is perceived as the right thing to do in these countries. Women should be able to live without the fear that if they do one tiny thing wrong, they could get murdered. Men in these countries need to get off their high horse and give their counterparts equal rights. If they commit these crimes, they should also be punished for it. However, some individuals move to the U.S. in hopes of simply finding a safer place for their selves and their families to live, where they can continue to hold their homeland culture and traditions. This fact means that the U.S. is now home to countless religions, cultures, and traditions. While this is one of the things that makes America a beautiful place it has also become one of the factors behind numerous tragedies. Living in the United States, the population as a whole tends to forget that not all cultures are as lenient and tolerable as their own. Many immigrants who now live inside the U.S. borders today try dearly to hold on to their customs. However admirable this may seem it can lead to grisly events. One issue that has arose due to immigrants' desire to hold on to their beliefs is honor killing. Analysis Of Honour Killing By Imtiaz Dharker Commentary: Honour Killing by Imtiaz Dharker This commentary will be centred on the 2001 piece 'Honour Killing' written by Imtiaz Dharker. In this commentary I aim to give an in– depth analysis and thoughtful critique of lexical and descriptive devices used within her free verse poem; in doing so I will address the deeper contextual elements highlighted within her work. The poem 'Honour Killing' details a woman's struggle for freedom and reclamation of her own identity. The main focal point of this poem is finding one's self and staying true who you are despite what your culture or societies tells you to do. Throughout the poem the poet highlights both religious and culture related issues associated with women in South Asia. Before analysing the poem, it is important to understand some of the contextual elements within the piece, such as honour killings and religion. 'The term honour killing refers to the murder of a relative, usually a girl or women who is believed to have brought shame upon the family'. This definition is particularly important to this poem as it is the title. This word holds great significance to women in south Asia as women in Pakistan live in a society which has only recently started condemning this type of practise. In addition to honour killings being an important factor within the poem the idea of religion, more specially Islam is referenced. 'I'm taking off this veil' is referencing the hijab that is a religious head dress often worn by Muslim women, for the purpose of concealing their beauty and retaining modesty. The main themes within the poem 'Honour killing' are culture, religion and self –expression/ freedom. The writer showcases these themes through the use of metaphors and imagery which are related to the religions Islam and Hinduism. The use of lexis such as 'veil' and 'Mangal sutra' highlight not only the theme of religion but also culture as the Mangal sutra is 'a symbol of marriage and is worn by the bride until her husband's death.' The wearing of a Mangal sutra is a sacred custom within the Hindu faith which can also be a big cultural tradition. The incorporation of these particular cultural references allows the reader some insight into the life style and ethnic >>> Get more content on Helpwriting.net <<<
