DECILEFOR UNGROUPED DATA CO 2: JULIE ANN M. DALUDDONG 4 TH QUARTER

Heavenly Father, thank you for answering prayers. We know that you are faithful to answer prayers how we need, and at the correct time. When we pray, help us to believe fully that everything in creation is under Your control and at Your command. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

HOUSE RULES: 1. Raise your hand if you have queries and clarifications or answering questions. 2. Follow directions and share your idea. 3. Participate with your group with regard and enthusiasm. 4. During activity, move to your group quietly. 5. Respect one another

Activity 3: Let’s Investigate! Complete the sentence by putting the appropriate word from the BOX. Then write the formula for decile of ungroup data. ______ is _____ score points which _____ the data into ____ equal parts. DIVIDE TEN DECILE NINE

Activity 3: Let’s Investigate! Example : Quartile is the three score points which divide the data into four equal parts. DIVIDE THREE QUARTIILE FOUR What would be the formula of the decile for ungroup data?

DECILE FOR UNGROUPED DATA : = 10 ( + 1) Mendenhall and Sincich Formula

The Deciles for Ungrouped Data The deciles are the nine score points which divide a distribution into ten equal parts. They are deciles and are denoted as D1, D2, D3,…D9. They are computed in the same way that the quartiles are calculated.

The Deciles for Ungrouped Data

Word Problem: Aling Marie is a fish vendor in Salinas market. She sells tinapa and daing, her sales in the first 10 days in this year are listed below. Her average sale per day lies on the 4th decile. 360 520 300440 460 540560 580620 200 Find the 4th decile

Word Problem: Solution: 1.) First, arrange the scores in ascending order. 200 300 360 440 460 540 520 560580 600

2. Second find its D 4 position, use the formula and round off to the nearest integer

Note: The computed value is with decimal which is 4.4 so we need to do linear interpolation.

Step 1: subtract the 4 th data from the 5 th data 460 — 440 = 20 Step 2: multiply the result by the decimal part obtained in the second step (position of 2 nd decile).4(20) = 8 3. Interpolating/ locating the exact position of the score.

Step 3: add the result in step 2 by the 3rd or smaller number/value 440+8 = 448 Value of 4th decile = 448 3. Interpolating/ locating the exact position of the score.

What are the formulas for deciles? k 10  D= k (n + 1)  Linear Interpolation  (HV-LV)(Decimal Part) + LV

Proper Activity 2 Direction: The groups will solve problem involving decile of ungrouped data according to its given position.

Problem: Mrs. Marasigan is a veterinarian. One morning, she asked her secretary to record the service time for 15 customers. The following are service times in minutes. 20, 35, 55, 28, 46, 32, 25, 56, 55, 28, 37, 60, 47, 52, 17.

Group 1: Compute the 5 th Decile Group 2: Compute the 6 th Decile Group 3: Compute the 8 th Decile Proper Activity 2 Please refer to your Learning Activity Sheet (LAS) to guide you in the activity.

Criteria 321 Timeless The task was finished on time. The task was finished 1-2 mins after time The task was finished 3 mins and above time. Teamwork All members are working to accomplish the task Some group member are not helping. Most of the member are not helping. Accuracy All the information presented are correct Some presented are incorrect Many presented are incorrect Presentation The presenter presented with conviction The presenter presented with less conviction The presenter Presented with doubt.

Deciles are used in finance and economics t o divide data into sets for the purpose of analysis. For example, the data set of mutual fund portfolio or the data set of income- tax return filers can be divided for analysing the top 10 per cent and so on

Data mining in direct marketing aims at identifying the most promising customers to send targeted advertising. Traditionally, statistical models are used to make such a selection. The success of statistical models depends on the validity of certain assumptions about data distribution. Artificial intelligence inspired models, such as genetic algorit...

Deciles usually applied to large data sets. One example of the use of deciles is in school awards or rankings. Students in the top 10% — or highest decile – may be given an honor cord or some other recognition. If there are 578 students in a graduating class, the top 10%, or 58 students, may be given the award. At the opposite end of the scale, students who score in the bottom 10% or 20% on a standardized test may be given extra assistance to help boost their scores.

GENERALIZATION 1. What is the formula in getting the position of decile? 2. What are the methods to use in computing decile data? 3. When can use linear interpolation?

EVALUATION Multiple Choices: Read and understand the problem and write the letter of the correct answer in your paper. 1. What measures of position that has nine score points and divide a distribution into ten equal parts. a.quartile b. decile c. percentile d. interpolation method

EVALUATION

4-5 Use the given data; 9, 11, 8, 9, 9, 14, 6, 5, 3, 16 4. What is the correct arrangement of the given data in ascending order? a. 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 9, 9, 11, 1 4, 16 b. 16, 14, 11, 9, 9, 9, 8, 6, 5,3 c. 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 16, 14, 11, 9, 9,6 d. 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 9, 9, 11, 1 4, 16

EVALUATION 5. By the Mendenhall and Sincich Method, what is the position of the 3rd decile? a. 3 b. 5 c. 6 d. 8

ASSIGNMENT: Answer the following problems: 1.Mrs. Labonete gave a test to her students in Statistics. The students finished their test in 35 minutes. This time is the 2.5th decile of the allotted time. What does this mean?

MESSAGE: “If you work hard enough and assert yourself, and use your mind and imagination, you can shape the world to your desires.” – MalcolmGladwell, author.
