Safety Messages Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manual. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact any Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility. Do Not Operate

Safety Messages Electrocution Hazard! Keep the machine and attachments a safe distance from electrical power. Stay clear 3 m (10 ft) plus twice the line insulator length. Overload Warning Device Electrical Power Lines Overloading the machine could impact the machine's stability which could result in a tip over hazard. A tip over hazard could result in serious injury or death. Always activate the overload warning device before you handle or lift objects

Certain machine front linkage combinations (boom, stick, quick coupler, work tool) may require keeping the work tool away from the cab during operation Crush Hazard. Improper joystick setting could cause possible unexpected movement of the boom, stick, or work tool which could result in serious injury or death. Confirm that the joystick settings are properly configured before you operate the machine Crushing Hazard

A machine may move unexpectedly and without warning resulting in personal injury or death. Before leaving the machine lower the work tool to the ground, lock operator controls, shut off the engine and remove the key The impact from objects that strike the front of the cab or the top of the cab could result in a crushing hazard with the potential for personal injury or death. The front guard and the top guard should be installed on the cab for applications where the hazard of falling objects exist Crushing Hazard

A crushing hazard exists when the stick and boom are in motion and when the machine is being used in object handling applications. Failure to stay clear of the stick and boom when the machine is in operation can result in personal injury or death. Stay clear of the stick and boom when the machine is in operation Machine swings. Jump Start Cables Improper jumper cable connections can cause an explosion resulting in serious injury or death. Batteries may be located in separate compartments A seat belt should be worn at all times during machine operation to prevent serious injury or death. Seat Belt

High Pressure Gas RELIEVE TANK PRESSURE WITH ENGINE OFF BY REMOVING CAP SLOWLY TO PREVENT BURNS FROM HOT OIL. Do not remove any parts from the cylinder until all of the pressure has been relieved. This will prevent possible personal injury or death High Pressure Cylinder

LiftingRestriction/Counterweight Only The rear link on the counterweight should be used for the counterweight only. Do not lift the whole Machine by these counterweight links. This could cause serious injury or death Engine hood and engine hood parts can be hot while engine is running or immediately after engine shutdown. Hot parts or hot components can cause burns or personal injury. Hot Surface

Restricted Operation Do not use the swing force to perform the following operations: Soil compaction Ground breaking Demolition Do not swing the machine while the bucket tips are in the soil. These operations will damage the boom, the stick, and the work tool and the operations will reduce the life of the equipment Do not use the dropping force of the bucket or work tool as a hammer. This will bring excessive force on the rear of the machine. Possible damage to the machine could result

Restricted Operation If the stick IN function is operated at full speed with a fully loaded bucket or heavy work tool attachment to the end of the cylinder stroke, excessive force will occur inside the stick cylinder. This action will reduce the life of the stick cylinder. To avoid this problem, always operate a stick IN function with moderate speed towards the end of cylinder stroke. When deep holes are dug, do not lower the boom so that the bottom side of the boom touches the ground. When deep holes are dug, do not allow the boom to interfere with the tracks.

Restricted Operation If the cylinder is operated at the end of the stroke during operations, excessive force will occur on the stopper on the inside of the cylinder. This will reduce the life of the cylinder and structures. To avoid this problem, always leave a small margin of play when the cylinder is operated. While the bucket is in the ground, do not use the travel force for any excavation. This operation will cause excessive force on the rear of the machine.

Travel in Water and Mud The machine can travel across a river only under the following conditions: The bed of the river is flat. The flow of the river is slow. The machine dips into the water only to the center of the track carrier roller (dimension A).. When working in or around any body of water, around a stream or river, or in conditions of heavy mud, be careful that the swing bearing, the swing drive gear, and the swivel joint do not dip into water, mud, sand, or gravel. If the swing bearing dips into water, mud, sand, or gravel, immediately grease the swing bearing until the used grease leaks from the outer circle of the swing bearing. Failure to carry out this procedure may cause premature wear in the swing bearing

Safe Parking Procedure 1.Position the boom over one side of the machine.. 2. Use boom down pressure in order to lift the track on one side off the ground. Operate the track in the forward direction. Then operate the track in reverse. Continue this procedure until the maximum amount of material is thrown off the track. 3. Lower the track onto the wood planks. 4. Repeat the procedure for the other track. 5.Clean the area around the carrier rollers and around the track rollers. 6. Lower the work tool onto a wood plank in order to prevent the work tool from touching the ground.

EXCAVATOR INSPECTION Always carry out pre-start safety and operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and company procedure. May include but not limited to - walk around, check of tracks, under carriage, boom structure and area around excavator. Operator shall check on the excavator ensure it is in good and function condition before operating the excavator. Excavator inspection checklist shall be used to check the excavator condition at least twice a month. Proper records of inspection should be maintained.

UPPER STRUCTURE Check for proper hydraulic fluid level. Refer to the operator’s manual for the correct position of the boom, stick & bucket for the measurement. Inspect all lights to ensure proper working order. Check the hydraulic system, pumps, hoses, lines and cylinders, for leaks.

TRACK SYSTEM Drive SprocketFront Idlers Inspect the sprocket for worn or cracked teeth. Check drive for leaks and damage. Inspect the front idlers for wear and damage.

CLIMBING ON AND OFF THE EXCAVATOR When climbing on and off the machine, the operator should always face the machine. Use the three-point contact method when climbing: Two hands and a foot or Two feet and a hand

Always work facing the excavator. Never assume the operator can always see you. Attend the walkie talkie safe operating procedure briefing before using it. Excavator operator and workers should be familiar with the blind spots of the excavator. Safe approach zone for an excavator.

MOVING UP A SLOPE If the slope is too steep and the material is loose, the rear of the machine may settle allowing the excavator to roll over backwards. Keeping the boom and stick extended will help distribute the load on the tracks more evenly which improves traction. If the excavator is unable to continue to climb due to slope, set the teeth of the bucket into the slope and start pulling the machine with the stick.

MOVING UP A SLOPE When the excavator comes close to the top of the slope, reach out with the stick and boom and sink the teeth into the ground beyond the crest of the slope. Continue to pull the machine up until it wants to tip forward. Lower the front of the machine with the boom and continue to tack from the slope.

MOVING DOWN A SLOPE When the center of the excavator is at the crest of the slope, raise the boom slightly to see if the machine will tilt forward. If not, slowly track forward and try again. Raise the bucket off the surface of the slope and see if the tracks will hold the machine on the slope. If the tracks will hold the machine, continue tracking down the slope with the bucket slightly off of the ground.

Before starting to excavate, assess the situation: What will be the maximum depth of the excavation? Where will the spoil be placed? How will the excavation be backfilled and with what material? Assess soil condition and its ability to support the excavator? EXCAVATING

Call Before You Dig! Before starting an excavation of any type, it is important to determine if there are any underground utilities in the area. Contact one of your local utility companies or search the Internet for the number. Representatives from these companies will come to your work site and mark the location of these utilities. EXCAVATING

Trenching is one of the common uses of the excavator. Before starting the trenching, evaluate the job site for hazards, type of soil, access to the site and where the spoil will be placed. TRENCHING

Workers are not to be in a trench while it is being excavated. Based on soil type, shoring normally is required before a worker enters the excavation. GENERAL TRENCH PRECAUTIONS

TRAINING Only trained operators are allowed to operate the machine. Never allow unauthorized person into the operator’s cab.

COMMUNICATION Use walkie talkie for communicate when working at rockface. Attend the walkie talkie safe operating procedure briefing before using it. Implement buddy system, communicate with buddy using walkie talkie if any issue.
