3. Famous invader The brown tree snake is notorious for destroying habitat and species alike. The snakes outnumber people on the island ten to one.

4. TREE snakes? Guam has no native snakes, so the native animals had no experience reacting to predators, and since it’s a mostly closed island system, the species that were there have had no ability to combat the snakes. Many of the native bird species have been completely extinct.

5. Nuisance or Menace? While the Brown tree snake isn’t a leathally deadly snake, the problem it poses for agriculture and wildlife makes it one of the fastest growing threats to urban life anywhere within the greater US.

6. Combat. Tree snake populations are being culled today through trapping and poisoning, with specialized trackers being specifically implanted into the snakes in order to find out migration patterns and better understand where they frequent so hunters can more easily locate and eliminate them.
