1 ALUMINIUM

2 Aluminium (AI), is a lightweight silvery white metal in group 13 of the periodic table.
It is the most abundant metallic element in Earth’s crust. It’s atomic number is 13, element symbol AI and atomic mass is

3 Hans Christian was a Danish physicist and chemist who discovered aluminium in 1825.
Paul Heroult and Charles Hall discovered the modern method of obtaining aluminium at the same time while working in two different continents.

4 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Solid Non-magnetic
Non-lustrous/ doesn’t shine Silvery-white It reacts faster with hot water. It catches fire easily when exposed to a flame. It does not react well with oxygen.

5 Because of its chemical form, aluminium never occurs in the metallic form in nature, but its compounds are present to a greater or lesser extent in almost all rocks, vegetation, and animals. Aluminium is manufactured in two phases; The Bayer process; a process for producing alumina from bauxite by digesting it in hot sodium hydroxide solution. The Hall-Heroult process; process of smelting the aluminium oxide to release pure aluminium oxide

7 LIMITATIONS BENEFITS Expensive raw metal Transportation
Softer than steel Expensive fabrication Corrodes rapidly in salt water LIMITATIONS BENEFITS Transportation Electronics Packaging Construction

8 ECONOMICALLY How does aluminium affect society?
Countless objects that simplify as well as increase the quality of our daily life are partly made of aluminium e.g packaging for food and medicine, aircrafts, electrical power lines, kitchenware e.t.c ECONOMICALLY Aluminium is lighter and stronger than steel so its transportation permits a safer, energy efficient product, 90% of the aluminium can be recycled at the end of the vehicles life. Aluminium industries are a job source. The world aluminium industry has hit hard because of its complete dependence on captive power and continuous operation.

9 ENVIRONMENTALLY Aluminium is one of the most environmentally friendly metals.
