2
Zeeman Effect INTRODUCTION: It is named by the Dutch physicist Pieter Zeeman, who discovered it in 1896 and received a Nobel prize for this discovery. Zeeman effect discuss about the splitting of spectral lines into several wavelengths when they are placed in magnetic field.
3
Zeeman Effect DEFINITION: In physics and astronomy, the splitting of a spectral line into three or more components of same or slightly different frequency when the light source is placed in a magnetic field.
4
Zeeman Effect Types of Zeeman Effect: Normal Zeeman Effect: The splitting of spectral line into three wave components of same frequencies by placed in the strong magnetic field is known as normal zeeman effect.
5
Zeeman Effect Types of Zeeman Effect: Anomalous zeeman Effect: The splitting of spectral line into more than three wave components of same frequencies by placed in the weak magnetic field is known as Anomalous zeeman effect.
6
Zeeman Effect Applications of Zeeman Effect: This effect can be used to measure magnetic field strength. Used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The Zeeman effect is utilized in many laser cooling applications such as a magneto-optical trap and the Zeeman slower.

Zeeman Effect Normal Can be achieved only by placing the atom in weak external magnetic field. Spectral line divided in to three waves of same frequencies. The division & Frequencies of waves depend on the number of shell from which atom jumps. Anomalous Can be achieved by placed atom in strong external magnetic field. Spectral line divided into more than three wave components. Division and frequecies of waves depend on the spind motion of atom and number of shells. -:Differences:-
