1 LESSON 2

2 At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to: 1. Define the role of philosophy in determining truth and knowledge. 2. Distinguish opinion from truth 3. Analyze the situation that show the difference between opinion and truth.

3  Clear awareness and understanding of something.  It is the product of questions that allow for clear answers provided by facts.  Our knowledge are comprised with ideas and beliefs that we know to be true.

4  The sun is the center of the solar system.  God made the world in seven days.  Asia is the largest continent in the world  A person must always consider the interests of his or her family before his or her own happiness.  The President has done very little to uphold democracy and look after the interests of the Filipino people.

5 TRUTH – is something true regardless of what we believe. Example: Triangle has three sides. FACT – is a statement that is true and can be verified objectively, or proven. In other words, a fact is true and correct no matter what. Example: Every circle is round.

6 OPINION – is a belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof. Example: Knowledge of truth is superior than love of wisdom. BELIEF – is a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing. Something that is accepted, considered to be true, or held as an opinion. Example: Belief in God, Belief in Democracy

7 1.It takes 30 minutes to walk from my home to school. 2. Living near the school is better because we don’t have to spend much for transportation. 3. My sister ate the last piece of pizza pie. 4. My sister is a selfish person because she ate the last piece of pizza pie and did not share it with me.
