LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENT Kind of movement that requires transfer of place from one point to another.

WALKING Walking can help protect the joints, including your knees and hips. That's because it helps lubricate and strengthen the muscles that support the joints. Walking may also provide benefits for people living with arthritis, such as reducing pain.

RUNNING Running is a method of terrestrial locomotion allowing humans and other animals to move rapidly on foot. BENEFITS: help to build strong bones, as it is a weight bearing exercise. strengthen muscles. improve cardiovascular fitness. burn plenty of kilojoules. help maintain a healthy weight.

HOPPING jumping with one foot and landing on the same foot. To maintain balance when they are hopping, their arms should be bent at their sides.... Although they stand on a flat foot, this is the part of their foot they should be jumping off and landing on.

SKIPPING skipping is a rhythmical combination of two skills: the step and the hop. Skipping is a step and a hop on one foot, followed by a step and a hop on the other foot.

LEAPING A leap is when a student leaves the ground off of one foot (i.e. left foot) and will land on the opposite foot (i.e. right foot).

SLIDING A slide is a sideways movement. The students will move to their right or their left with the appropriate shoulder leading the direction of the slide. If they are moving to the left, the left shoulder will be leading the motion. The left foot will reach out to the left side to take a step.

GALLOPING Galloping is a forward slide movement: front foot steps forward with a little spring followed by the transfer of body weight to the back foot. As the back foot receives the body weight, the front foot repeats the forward step movement. The same lead foot always stays in front throughout the gallop.

Non-locomotor skills are fundamental body movements that do not incorporate traveling. They are stability skills that include movements of limbs or body parts, and sometimes even the whole body.
