What are Tenses? Tense is a form of verb that shows the time it happens. It describes an action with respect to time. Forms of verbs :- Base form V 1 Past form V 2 Past Participle form V 3 ‘Ing’ form / Present Participle form V 4 / V ing ‘s/es’ form V 5 / V s/es

Simple Present Tense Habits E.g. I daily wake up at 7:00 AM. Quotes/Commentary E.g. Slow and steady wins the race. Universal Truths E.g. The sun rises in the east. Planned future event E.g. Exam commence from tomorrow. Formation :- Subject + V 1 + Object

Present Continuous Tense Action which is currently going on. E.g. The gardener is weeding the garden. Action taking place but is not going on at the time of speaking. E.g. I am taking Karate classes these days. Action which is expected to take place. E.g. We are celebrating Environment day tomorrow. Formation :- Subject + is/am/are + V 4 +Object

Present Perfect Tense Action that began in past and is continuing in present. E.g. I have lived in Nashik for 10 years. Action that has just been completed and its effect is seen in present moment. E.g. We have just completed the renovation of our house. Formation :- Subject + have/has + V 3 + Object

Present Perfect Continuous Tense To emphasize the continuity of a action in the past and is still going on. (It can be a time period or the beginning of an action) E.g. I have been studying in DPS Nashik for 5 years. (time period) I have been studying in DPS Nashik since 2013. (beginning of the action) Formation :- Subject + (have been) + V ing + Object

Simple Past Tense To express habitual action in the past. E.g. I won many competitions during my school days. To express a completed action. (Adverbial Phrase - Time) E.g. He completed his work yesterday Formation :- Subject + V 2 + Object

Past Continuous Tense To express an action going on sometime in the past. E.g. I was reading the lessons all evening. To express an action that was a persistent habit in the past. E.g. She was always knitting something for her grandchildren. Formation :- Subject + was/were + V ing + Object

Past Perfect Tense To express an action that was completed before another took place E.g. The train had left before I reached the station. Formation :- Subject + had + V 3 + Object

Past Perfect Continuous Tense To show an action that had been going on before another past action. E.g. We had been studying for an hour when the guest came in. Formation :- Subject + had been + V ing + Object

Simple Future Tense Action that is going to occur in future. E.g. I will play football with my friends. Formation :- Subject + will + V 1 + Object

Future Continuous Tense Action that will start in future. E.g. I will be playing cricket with my friends at 5 pm. Formation :- Subject + will be + V ing + Object

Future Perfect Tense Action will happen before another event in future. E.g. He will have sung on the stage. Formation :- Subject + will have + V 3 + Object
