6. At the end of the story, why does Andy take off his jacket? What does the jacket symbolize (represent) ? Explain. (4 pts) The jacket is a symbol of his gang (The Royals). (2 pts) He was stabbed simply because he was wearing the gang jacket. He blames the jacket for his death and as he is dying, he no longer wants to be known as a Royal, but as Andy, an individual. He wants to die as himself, not as a gang member. (2 pts)

7. “ A Royal huh ?” he said. The rain seemed to beat more steadily now, more fiercely. She looked at the cop and, very quietly, she said, “His name is Andy”. The cop slung the jacket over his arm. He took out his black pad, and he flipped it open to a blank page. “A Royal,” he said. Then he began to write. Based on the comments from the police officer in the story, will Andy’s dying wish be granted ? Explain. (2 pts) No, Andy is another case of gang violence, he will not be remembered as an individual, but as a gang member, since the officer refuses to acknowledge him by name instead of by gang.

(2 pts) Rising action : Many people see Andy, but do not help him for different reasons (too drunk, too scared, did not notice him, etc.). (3 pts) Climax : Andy accepts he will die, but does not want to die as a Royal, so he takes off his jacket(gang symbol). (2 pts) Falling action : Laura sees Andy dead and finds a cop. (2 pts) Conclusion : Andy is remembered simply as a Royal(the cop does not recognize him as a person but only as a gang member). ( 2 pts)
