2 Emergency Drill Reviews September 21, 2016

3 FIRE EVACUATION When the fire alarm sounds, leave the building by the nearest exit and move 50 feet away from the building

4 Before exiting, turn off all lights
ALL students and staff must evacuate the building according to evacuation plans provided Before exiting, turn off all lights After exiting, close the door—do not lock it. No stopping in hallways to open lockers to retrieve personal items (e.g., coats, purses, phones, etc.) Walk, DO NOT RUN! These are mechanisms to practice in the case of an emergency

5 Accountability during Fire Drills and Evacuations
Have your class roster with you. Account for all students If all students are accounted for, hold up the laminated classroom sign with GREEN side visible to the Fire Drill Monitor If all students are not accounted for, hold up laminated classroom sign with RED side visible to Fire Drill Monitor If a student is with another staff member in a different location, give name to Fire Drill Monitor not the location If you have a student from a different classroom, identify the student and room number give name to the Fire Drill Monitor

Immediately following an evacuation, including fire drills, or during a shelter alert, school staff must report attendance by Send to Subject line: Attendance Room 164 all present Missing student: Subject line: Room 164 –John Doe Additional student: Subject Line: Room Mary Jones DO NOT WRITE IN BODY OF ONLY IN SUBJECT LINE

7 DIRECTED EVACUATION An announcement will be made over the PA system, the phones and the walkie-talkies and it will direct you in the proper way to exit the building. Listen for directions for blocked exits Once outside, move 300 feet away from the building

9 Reverse Evacuation A reverse evacuation is used when a dangerous situation outside requires students and staff to be directed back to the facility Communication to return – listen for the three bells and/or an announcement Once back inside, accountability for students and staff

21 What is Personnel Committee?
Committee that addresses, discusses and makes decisions regarding topics of importance to the Ivymount staff Consists of Ivymount employee representatives Committee meets at least monthly Committee that allows you to have an active role in issues that affect you directly as an Ivymount employee. © Ivymount Corporation

22 What does Personnel Committee do?
Provides an avenue for employee communication Facilitates communication between programs Serves a resource for the Ivymount Leadership Team Discusses Topics such as: Employee appreciation and acknowledgment Policy and Procedures Parking (PARC) Ivymount employee priorities “Going green” Employee clubs (i.e. kickball, softball) Healthy food committee Allows staff a forum to share ideas and discuss concerns We are a big school with multiple programs and we want to collaborate across programs Ivymount Leadership wants input from staff when making decisions that affect the school Employee Appreciation – this includes fun things like breakfasts and staff parties, but we also want to acknowledge staff contributions in other ways Policy and procedures –Changes to bereavement leave, tuition dollars used for books and fees, benefit for l– transit and parking, give feedback on the handbook and what is not clear Parking works with personnel committee and was able to advocate to move parking, valuable feedback was provided about the need to find closer parking, changed shuttle times from 5:00 to 5:05 to accommodate Outreach, professional feedback Addresses issues that are important to staff © The Ivymount School, Inc.

23 Who is in Personnel Committee?
Non Voting Members – Administrative position, Staff Services rep, School Director 1 Personnel Committee Chair Oversees the Ivymount Personnel Committee and is the staff representative to the School Board. Responsible for: Setting agenda and running monthly personnel committee meetings Meeting with the members of the Ivymount leadership team to discuss personnel issues Attending school board meeting and presenting annual update on personnel committee 1-2 Department representatives from each program including: Asperger Program Autism Programs Multiple Learning Needs Programs Post High School Related Services SMART Administration © The Ivymount School, Inc.

What are the responsibilities & expectations of a Personnel Committee member? Attend all personnel committee meetings and be prepared to represent the concerns and ideas of your program Report Personnel Committee actions and announcements to your program/department regularly Regularly poll staff from your program/department for their input on Personnel Committee topics Provide thoughtful insight regarding staff issues to Ivymount Leadership Team Need someone that is going to commit to the entire year, exceptional opportunity that you can include on a resume – grad school and within Ivymount © The Ivymount School, Inc.

Next Steps for Volunteer to be a Department Rep will be sent to volunteer to be a representative Elect a Personnel Committee Chair will be sent for staff to nominate someone from their department to serve in this role Nominees will be interviewed by their peers Interview is 3-4 people from across programs, cast anonymous vote, short interview Gauge interest and decide how many from each program © The Ivymount School, Inc.
