1 Hebrews 1:3 (NIV) 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

2 background Glory – Hebrew word ‘Kabod’ with root idea of ‘ heaviness, weight, worthiness, wealth, splendor, reputation, beauty. Glory of Yahweh – Revelation of God’s Being, nature, character, presence to mankind, sometimes with physical phenomenon (Cloud) Sometimes the Glory of Yahweh was in the temple especially at the hours of sacrifice. Today the Glory of God, our Father is in the Church.

3 Manifestation of the glory of god
John 11:38-40 (NIV) 38 Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. 39 “Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” 40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”

4 Old testament glory Worship in the Earthly Tabernacle
Hebrews 9 Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary. 2 A tabernacle was set up. In its first room were the lampstand and the table with its consecrated bread; this was called the Holy Place. 3 Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place, 4 which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant. 5 Above the ark were the cherubim of the glory,  overshadowing the atonement cover.

5 Cherubim of glory The cherubim's excellency, purity, and simplicity;
Their having wings, expresses their readiness to do his will; Their looking one to another, signifies their unity and concord among themselves; Their looking to the mercy seat, their inspection into the mysteries of grace; and their being over the ark, and God being in the midst of them, declares the presence of God with them, whose face they always behold;

6 I am a glimpse of god’s glory
A glimpse of God’s unlimited Wisdom, Power, Presence, Glory is revealed to me by the amazing complexity of my body. Psalm 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

7 I am fearfully and wonderfully made

8 God speaks to a despairing people Question 1( isaiah 40:14)
“ Who did the Lord consult to enlighten Him, and who taught Him the right way? Who was it that taught Him knowledge, or showed Him the path of understanding? The question challenges us to look at the tasks God has done! Vs 17 – Look at the nations “ Before Him all the nations are as nothing;” Vs 23 He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.

9 Question 2 (Isaiah 40:25) “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” This question rebukes wrong thoughts about God. Our thoughts about God are not great enough. Our thoughts about God are too human – limiting His Power, Wisdom, Grace, Love, Knowledge.

10 Question 3 (Isaiah 40:27) “ Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, my cause is disregarded by my God”? This Question rebukes wrong thoughts that God has abandoned us. This kind of thinking dishonor God. God has not abandoned us, nor has the good Shepherd. He does not forget, overlook or lose interest in the status of our affairs.

11 Question 4 (Isaiah 40:28) “Do you not know? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom”. This Qn rebukes ‘our slowness to believe God’s majesty’. God is sovereign, all-seeing, Almighty and Majestic.

12 God created me for his glory
Hebrews 2:7 (NIV) 7 You made them a little[a] lower than the angels;     you crowned them with glory and honor 1 Thessalonians 2:12 (NIV) 12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. 1 Peter 5:10 (NIV) 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ.

13 God prepared us in advance for his glory
Romans 9:21 (NIV) 21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use? 23 What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory—24 even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?

14 Jesus – our source of glory
 John 17:4 (NIV) 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity.

15 We can only give glory to god only when we surrender completely to Jesus
Come to the cross, and join Him in union and death, and enter into all the meaning of death to self in order that He can have glory. Come and present your body a living sacrifice, and let Him fill you, so that He can have the purpose for His coming fulfilled in you, and get glory through your life. “It is not what I will get out of God, it is what He is going to get out of me’.

16 AM I A BACK SEAT DRIVER? In repentance, I have been pardoned
for His glory. And in victory, I have been brought to the place of death that He might reign. And in fullness, Jesus Christ is able to live and walk in me.

17 Hell is absence of God’s glory
2 Thessalonians 1:9 (NIV) 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.

18 In God’s glory – there is provision, revelation, restoration, peace, rest, plan and life
Philippians 4:19 (NIV) 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:4(NIV) 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Exodus 33(Plan); Exodus 24 (40 days), Exodus 40 (Tabernacle)

19 The gospel displays the glory of Christ
2 Corinthians 4:4 (NIV) 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Thessalonians 2:14 (NIV) 14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 1:17(NIV) 17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

20 God’s glory brings an encounter with god leading to praise, healing, signs and wonders.
Acts 4:21 After further threats they let them (Peter and John) go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened. Vs 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord, they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. Now Lord consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of Jesus”…the place they were meeting was shaken. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
