How do I write a narrative account?
A narrative account is just a story of the events that led up to a final outcome. It can be helpful to think of the account alike a flow diagram. There are some examples of this below. Make sure that you cover the dates used Use language of sequence – this led to, as a result, in response, consequently, next, then, this was caused by… Use cause/event/consequence as a way of ordering your response You have to reach the FINAL OUTCOME in your answer.

Example of how to write a Narrative Account?
Key words: Narrative = telling a reader a story. Analyse = to look at something in depth, to explain something. Cause = the reason why something happened. Consequence = a result of something, an outcome, repercussion, effect.

This is the story with language of sequence and analysis. This is what you have to do in the exam. I stayed up reading a really great book. Consequently I woke up late. This meant I left the house late. This led to me missing my bus. Having left the house late I then missed my normal bus. Therefore, I had to wait for ages for the next bus. Subsequently, I was even latter and getting to after period 1. This led to me getting a detention. I missed my valuable, and very enjoyable, History lesson. This meant that I did not complete the lesson. I had to catch up with the work. So I was given a detention.

Exemplar paragraph: 3 mins [POINT] One of the key events that led to the building of Santo Domingo was Columbus’ arrival in the New World. [CAUSE] This happened because the Spanish wanted to find a new trade route to the East to buy spices. [EVENT] In this event Columbus sailed over the Atlantic and finally landed on the island of San Salvador on 11th October He then explored other islands looking for treasure. [CONSEQUENCE] This meant that the Spanish had found the islands of the Caribbean and discovered the people and riches of the area. Therefore the Spanish wanted to build an empire in the Caribbean. [LINK] This led to the building of settlements, like La Navidad, because Columbus wanted to claim the Caribbean for Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand.
