1 Separate Sciences or Double Award Science?

2 What is Separate Science?
A broad, balanced, in-depth study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics as three full IGCSEs using the Edexcel specification. Students are awarded three separate IGCSE grades, one for each science. What is Separate Science?

3 What is Double Award Science?
A broad, balanced study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics where the content of each science is equivalent to two thirds of the content of the Separate Science courses using the Edexcel specification. Some of the more complex and in-depth ideas from Separate Science are not covered. Students are awarded two IGCSE grades which combine all three sciences. What is Double Award Science?

5 Why choose Separate Sciences?
You really like Science because it helps you explain the world you live in; it teaches you to think in an analytical way and it helps you to critically evaluate data or information. You are keen to study it at an advanced level such as IB (or A’ level if you leave us at the end of Y11) You already think you might want to be a doctor, vet, engineer or some other science-based career. You want to do the best possible preparation for studying Science at IB or A’ level. Why choose Separate Sciences?

6 Why choose Double Award Science?
You really want to do five of the option subjects and cannot decide which one to drop This gives you experience of one more option subject that you may choose to study at an advanced level (IB or A’ level) but does not prevent you from choosing a Science subject either. Why choose Double Award Science?

7 What if I change my mind about my Science pathway?
FAQs Question Separate Double What if I change my mind about my Science pathway? You could change to double award but would have to work hard to catch up in your one new subject. You could change to separate Science but would have to work hard to catch up in all three Sciences. What if I am better at one Science than the others? You will get three separate grades so this might be reflected in your final outcome. You will not be able to tell from your final grade as all subject marks will be combined.
