9. What is Zeolite?
Aluminosilicates found in volcanic rock, naturally hydrophilic
Synthesized for purity into crystalline structure with consistent pore size
Three dimensional network of connected SiO2 and AlO2 tetrahedra
Molecular sieve - molecules small enough to pass through the pores are adsorbed while larger molecules are not
Different zeolites - multiple pore sizes, adsorb a range of VOCs

Typical VOC molecular diameter:
acetone = 4.3 A
xylene = 5.9 A
toluene = 5.9 A
Munters uses mix of zeolite to match pore space with diameters
Will adsorb ~ 15% its weight
