Self-assessment process
Undertaken by the organisation itself People make a judgement about the organisation’s performance against the indicators Identify what is being done well and decide what needs to be improved Develop an action plan to address the areas for improvement Needs to reflect the views of the different stakeholders within the organisation It is not a ‘one-off’ process

‘Sources of evidence’ are just suggestions for places where you may find evidence. Only use ‘sources of evidence’ for ideas – think about what is appropriate evidence for your organisation. Does not always have to be written down or brought together in a portfolio. Evidence should be CARD Consistent, Accessible, Recent, Dated

LEVELS OF TRUSTED CHARITY
Sets minimum requirements an organisation should meet Helps organisations meet their legal requirements as an employer and service provider Lays the foundation for effective planning and targeting of activities to help meet organisational objectives Supports longer term vision and development of the organisation. Builds on achievement of level 1 Assumes there is greater capacity to plan and monitor work, and develop internal processes, than there is at level 1 Requires a more strategic approach to achieving aims and objectives Requires a systematic approach to planning and to monitoring results, with a stronger focus on outcomes

It has been useful in terms of highlighting developmental gaps i.e. business plan, which has helped develop the organisation and put us in better stead for tenders and funding bids. Trusted Charity is a good opportunity to reflect, review and change where necessary. Created awareness for trustees – protecting their interests. Very positive – Trusted Charity has helped the organisation work through a comprehensive review of the organisation in a structured and logical way as well as provide a framework for changes needed. The Trusted Charity process has been positive and beneficial to establish the organisation’s governance structures during a time of change. The Trusted Charity process has been beneficial to start the process of improving the organisation’s systems and processes. It had given staff the opportunity to question ways of working and to look for improvements. Welsh feedback It has been positive for gaining a better understanding of and improving fundamental aspects of the organisation (e.g. models of service and operational plan), which may not have happened otherwise

The cost of a Trusted Charity Mark assessment depends on the size of your organisation and level of Trusted Charity you are applying at Prices start from £1800+VAT for a small, single-sited organisation, plus assessor expenses NCVO & WCVA members receive 10% discount off the cost of their Trusted Charity Mark fee
