In light of current market trends and limited long term visibility, two items work in VERITAS’ favor. 1) The Windows market is continuing to grow. With that growth, there is opportunity for VERITAS. If we maintain our current share, we’ll see additional revenue growth. 2) VERITAS is positioned to best exploit the windows market, growing or not, to gain more market share Just look at our history with Microsoft NT 3.1 shipped in August 93. 12 WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE SAYING
“Performance results were impressive... Microsoft Exchange backup and restore options are stunning – and staggering… we found the user interface seductive…” - Storage Magazine, March 2003 “Our preference goes to Backup Exec [over ARCserve] because of its cohesive interface and ease of use. We were amazed at how quickly we were up and running.” - VAR Business, April 8, 2003 VERITAS is very proud of the response to the Backup Exec 9 product line. Here are just a few comments that Backup Exec has received. Both eWeek and Storage Magazine were extremely positive in their reviews of Backup Exec, noting the strong performance customers would experience – especially on Exchange – as well as large number of accolades for the new user interfaced – designed to help streamline tasks. Storage Magazine even called the new interface “seductive.” We think that’s the first time “storage” and “seductive” have been used in the same article! Note To Speaker: VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1 was build on the same code as Backup Exec 9.0. The Backup Exec 9.0 was a major release for the product, and any accolades received for Backup Exec 9.0 apply to functionality carried over to Backup Exec 9.1. “… Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows is extremely easy to use… Flexibility aside, we found Backup Exec to be the best of the bunch, thanks to its intuitive design and overall ease of use." - CNET, June 2004 1 38 2

14 Award Winning Backup Exec
Windows and .NET Magazine 2004 Readers Choice Award Second year in a row! "Best Disaster Recovery Tools, Enterprise Backup/Recovery Archive Software" “Best Disaster Recovery Tools, Local Backup/Recovery” Windows Server System Magazine Magazine’s 2004 Readers Choice Award (formerly .NET Magazine) “Best Data Management Solution” “Best Backup and Recovery” W2Knews 2004 Target Award Winner – Backup eSchool News 2003 – Best Data Backup and Recovery Solution NetworkNews 2002 Editor’s Choice for Windows Backup/Recovery As the industry leader in data protection and specifically in the Windows environment, Backup Exec has received numerous awards. The high praise received in the product’s initial reviews by the editors and press was further validated by, most importantly, the end-user community. Backup Exec received the .net Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Award at Microsoft Tech Ed in Dallas on June 3rd. The Education vertical market followed shortly thereafter via eSchool News, Veritas Software’s Backup Exec emerged at the top of this category owing to its ease of use, robustness, and reliability. “Veritas’ Backup Exec has proven itself. The ability to specify backup paths through separate network cards, VLANs, and SANs has been responsible for more saved hides than I can shake a stick at,” one reader wrote. Backup Exec received 48% vote, 3 times the vote of the next competitor (CA). And in September, Windows and .NET Magazine honored Backup Exec with two major reader’s choice awards: - "Best Disaster Recovery Tools, Enterprise Backup/Recovery Archive Software" - “Best Disaster Recovery Tools, Local Backup/Recovery” The quotes from these customers really say it all. One customer note that Backup Exec was “very easy to configure and use,” while another went so far as to say “This product rocks!” This is high praise from customers. And this is the kind of information and these are the messages you can take to your customers to let them know they are getting a great solution – so you can close more business.

18 What Customers Like About Backup Exec
I have used NT Backup in the past for my OCModShop backup needs which worked fine but was lacking in areas I needed. I am very impressed with Backup Exec because of its functionality, options, and speed. With the ability to backup data, Exchange, SQL, and the system state all with one program and all in a single instance the time saved is enormous. Not only does the consolidated backup save time but if I ever need to restore anything that also will be much faster and give me more flexibility on how I want to restore. – Brandon Turnbull, OCModShop, September 2004

19 Why Backup Exec for SBS 2003 Reliable data protection
Offsite backup to remote location Fast Backup and Restore solution Easy and flexible scheduling Comprehensive notification scheme Powerful disaster recovery Great flexibility and granularity to manage backups Exclude non-business-related data Single mailbox backup/restore Multi-server management

20 New SBS-Specific Agents/Options
Advanced Open File Option Desktop Laptop Option Library Expansion Option Remote Agent (CAL) Specially priced for Small Business Server market Can only be used with Backup Exec for Windows Small Business Server Editions And with the introduction of the Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Small Business Servers, VERITAS now offers specific agents and options for the Small Business Server market. These are agents and options that are specially priced for customers purchasing Backup Exec for Windows Small Business Server. And there is an upgrade path for all the agents and options, so you won’t have to buy them over again, should you grow beyond their Small Business Server into a full fledge Server offering. It is important to note that these agents and options will only work with Backup Exec for Windows Small Business Server, and not with Backup Exec for Windows Server edition.

21 Improved Application Availability Backup Exec Agent for Exchange – Included
Keep application online during backups Reduces backup windows Microsoft certified protection for Exchange 2003 Deliver more granular support Backup individual mailboxes Maintain single instance storage of attachments Run Incremental/differential backups for mailboxes and public folders Specify folder exclusions Globally include/exclude folders Exclude deleted/sent Items Backup Exec delivers the fast backup and restore for Exchange servers, and supports Exchange Key features are: Single Instance Backup of Message Attachments – This backs up only one copy of attachments delivered to multiple users, delivering faster backups of individual mailboxes by reducing backup of duplicate information. No longer will you be backing up that large sales or technical presentation sitting in everyone’s mailbox. Greater Granularity – Exchange users can now perform incremental  and differential backups of individual mailboxes and public folders when performing mailbox level backups. Specific Folder Exclusion – This provides Exchange users the ability to globally include or exclude specific folders, such as Deleted Items or Sent Items, during Exchange mailbox backups. The bottom line impact – Application availability improves backup windows are reduced, and application availability is improved. A key benefit for businesses AND IT depts.

22 How Single Instance Storage Works
VP TRADITIONAL BACKUP SINGLE INSTANCE Messages Attachments 1 2 3 100+ EE #1 Exchange 2003 on SBS 2003 Tape Drive EE #2 First build is automatic Let me show you exactly how single instance storage of attachments works. In this instance, we have a VP who is sending an out. And it has a PowerPoint presentation attached, probably with a lot of graphics. Hit Page Down or click on mouse to advance He may send it to one employee, two, or maybe the whole company – more than 100 employees. And that he sends out will send the PowerPoint presentation in every that goes out. Those s, and their attachments will be on the Exchange server. And all that data will get backed up. As we look at traditional backup methods, each either sent from the VP or sitting in the employee’s inbox will get backed up, as will EVERY copy of the PowerPoint presentation. This unnecessarily increases the backup size, amount of data to be stored, and slows the backup. With the Single Instance Storage included in the Exchange Agent for Backup Exec in v9.0 or later, the process is much more efficient. It separates the message and the attachment, placing each in its own category. And it only backs up the attachment ONE TIME. It provides pointers to that specific attachment – in this case, a PowerPoint file – so easy retrieval at a future date. The benefit is that we reduce the amount of data to be recovery, enable simple, easy recovery, and help you maximize your storage resources. Faster backups, faster restores, greater granularity and protection. EE #75

23 Improve Application Availability Backup Exec Agent for SQL–Included in Premium
Keep application online during backups Deliver granular support Backup individual file groups Faster, smarter recovery Use automation to restore the master database Run a single pass restore using automated disaster recovery Redirect restores to alternative database Implement and support SQL Server clusters

24 Backup Exec Intelligent Disaster Recovery – Included
Automated Easy, reliable, error-proof Windows server restores Able to be used by non-technical staff Gets you to get back to business – fast To assist organizations with rapid server recovery, VERITAS offers the Backup Exec Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option. It is an affordable, cost-effective solution for server recovery. What’s key is that it is automated, so it removes the manual, laborious, time intensive server restores and gets you back in to business fast. And it integrates with Backup Exec. You already have to do backups. It is simple, easy, and affordable to add the additional functionality to ensure rapid server recovery, while you are doing your regular backups.

25 Server Recovery Manual vs. Automated
REBOOT Load “backup” media; re-catalog, then restore data. Reload Backup Exec Reload the OS from media, apply all service packs, drivers updates, etc. Gather all software media (O/S, Applications, serial numbers, etc. to rebuild serve) Manual Reduces Server Restore Time By 50 – 80% Time To Restore REBOOT Load “backup” media; restore data (using DR CD or Disk) Diskette/CD Media REBOOT REBOOT in DR mode (& restore data) Bootable Tape In fact, we can compare traditional (or manual) restores to automated server recovery. You’ve got to gather your operating system and application media, restore the server, apply any previous service packs AND driver updates. And how many of you can tell me where all your serial numbers are right now? Take informal poll By comparison, you can see how automated or rapid server recovery significantly reduces the time. Hit Page Down or click mouse. In fact, HP did a study that included Backup Exec, and it showed that automated server recovery can reduce server restores by 50 – 80%. And when that means reducing the time to get your Exchange server backup in 80% less time – well, that could be a career enhancing move. Traditional Automated Server Recovery Level Of Simplicity

26 Simple As 1 – 2 – 3 Prep CD Media Step 1 Burn CD Media Step 2
Restore: Insert CD Step 3 System walks user through: O/S restore Application/Data restore First build is automatic How does it work? Well, it’s as simple as 1, 2, 3. Once installed, you follow the wizard to create your recovery media. Hit Page Down or click mouse Then it will ask you how you want to set up the media. We recommend a bootable CD image. Then simply select the computer or computers to protect. Step 2 is you burn a CD of the recovery disk you’ve just set up. Keep in mind – you don’t need specific CD burning software. It’s included for free with Backup Exec. Step 3 – When you need to restore, you simply insert the CD in the downed server. The CD will walk you through the O/S, application, and data restore. 27 VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Small Business Servers
Improved Protection

28 Improved Backup Integrity Backup Exec Advanced Open File Option
Protect files even while in use Increases application availability Improves your backup quality Increases speed of your backups Leverage snapshot “frozen image” technology VERITAS Volume Snapshot provider (VSP) Microsoft Volume ShadowCopy Service (VSS) VERITAS Volume Manager FlashSnap With better protection also means better data integrity. According to a survey conducted by Strategic Research Corporation, open files cause 97% of incomplete backups. So to meet today’s challenges companies needs a solution that ensures all files on local or remote servers are protected - even while in use. Advanced Open File , which includes the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows, provides that functionality. Additionally, the Advanced Option File Option and integrates the ability to detect the Additional/Technical Information Microsoft Volume Snapshot Service (VSS) for shadow copy components, VERITAS Volume Snapshot, or Volume Manager FlashSnap -- providing users the option to select either frozen image solution to protect open files. The impact in application availability needs are met, but data integrity goes to 100%. 100% complete backups 100% data integrity of the backups

29 Backup Exec Desktop and Laptop Option
Improves Data Protection Provides continuous disk-based protection Enables Synchronization Enable files on multiple desktops and laptops synchronized, allowing data to remain “in-place” where users need it Provides Simple Administration Offers a single console keeps administration to a minimum Allows simple management of user groups and backup parameters Helps Ensure Regulatory and Audit Compliance Extends robust protect for Outlook Personal Folder (.PST) Sends only message level changes for faster backup To solve the IT need for a reliable desktop and laptop data protection, VERITAS introduces the Desktop and Laptop Option. The Desktop and Laptop Option not only provides data protection in a new continuous mode that will protect users whether they are in the office or on the road but it introduces something new to this space, Synchronization. Synchronization allows users with multiple machines to synchronize their data in-place or where they need it; similar to how a Palm Pilot synchs with a computer. To help with the total cost of ownership the Desktop and Laptop Option utilizes existing hardware, storage and personnel, making the implementation and deployment of the solution fast and easy. A single console allows for at-a-glance management that the Administrator will need to view once a day to ensure operations are running smoothly. In addition, the Desktop and Laptop Option manages thousands of users via profiles, which allow the Administrator to segment users however they like (by workgroup or department for example), assigning backup parameters such as including/excluding files, setting maximum amount of storage used and schedules to ensure the operation runs smoothly. Lastly, we have enhanced our ability to handle .pst (personal outlook folders, those sitting on the hard drive) files. Instead of treating the .pst as one large file it is considered a series of files or individual mail messages. The desktop and laptop option will only backup the changed mail messages, thereby delivering faster, less obtrusive backup.

DOC Tape Drive (or other storage media) Desktop at HQ PDF Laptop on the Road This slide graphically shows how it works/architecture. It builds automatically. The Desktop and Laptop Agent resides on each individual desktop and laptop and facilitates the copy of files to a file server or network share via a Backup Exec server. In this particular representation the Backup Exec console is separated from the network share to show that data flows directly to storage and does not pass through the server. Once the data is stored on the file server it can be easily added to the Backup Exec server backup rotation to ensure that the data is safe in case of disaster on the appropriate tape drive or other media.
