9 Enterprise Vault™ Version 6 Contents
01/02/2020 Enterprise Vault™ Version 6 Contents Let’s take 10 minutes and discuss the newest version of our products, Version 6. It has been a year in the making, and has had more focus and review than any previous release to give you confidence in our direction and abilities. Between market segment reviews, and customer enhancement requests, more than 180 items were considered for this release. VERITAS Enterprise Vault

10 Enterprise Vault™ 6 Strategy
01/02/2020 Enterprise Vault™ 6 Strategy Scalability: We are enhancing the internal infrastructure of Enterprise Vault to support more diverse deployment scenarios Manageability: We have a number of improvements to allow for more flexibility of managing customer environments and unique needs Hostability: For our ISP / ASP and Enterprise customers we have enhanced our product to allow for scenarios that closely match your growth industries Reliability: We have focused significant effort to increase customer ability to work in SLA intensive environments from single businesses to the demanding ISP/ASP worlds The KVS management teams met and defined in early 2004 what the goals and themes for 6 would be. Many items were considered and in the end the above 4 were judged best suited to the demands placed on customers today by THEIR customers. VERITAS Enterprise Vault

11 Enterprise Vault™ 6 Headlines
01/02/2020 Enterprise Vault™ 6 Headlines Major new functionality in all areas Service Providers / Large Customers Infrastructure Enhancements FSA Enhancements Categorization and Filtering Support SharePoint 2003 SQL Intelligent PST location, management and migration service API Enhancements for integration Task Based Flexible Architecture MIME / SMTP mail format support In this one slide, the new functionality is summed up in a way that you could skip the following slides . Each item is what customers need to be able to scale from SME -> extremely large enterprises with the EV product suite, for their requisite area. Each item has its own chart detailing high level functionality in the following pages. VERITAS Enterprise Vault

12 Large Customer and Service Providers Features
01/02/2020 Large Customer and Service Providers Features Multi-tenant hosting Security (maintaining walls between tenants) Policies (per tenant rather than site-wide) Compliance Accelerator flexibility Database deployment flexibility Journaling task flexibility to EV servers Mix-n-Match Journaling to EV servers Allows any number of Journals to EV servers for more flexibility Process based service architecture to reduce the number of services PST Public Folders Mailbox management Error reporting enhancements / MoM 2004 Support Scriptable provisioning API to help ASPs Mailboxes, vaults, vault stores, services, etc. Smarter auto-enabled mailbox archiving Hosting customers and customers with demanding security environments need to separate their infrastructure. For those customers, we have enhanced the product to support services “ala carte” for certain parts of our products, and enhanced other parts of our products to be more representative of how administrators do their work. An exciting addition is the changes made for Microsoft Operations Manager 2004 and Error reporting where new products coupled with customer knowledge base feedback has led to an all new product area. For customers not wanting to have a GUI for larger setups, etc we have provided a scriptable version of a number of our API’s to allow them or a 3rd party to write code to support that work. VERITAS Enterprise Vault

13 Internal Enhancements Features
01/02/2020 Internal Enhancements Features Scalability & Performance Internal improvements across all products FSA Archive Explorer Internal database updates Delivery of more admin friendly functionality in VAC Exposing frequently used registry keys or “.ini” files Improved archive service model More admin flexibility for users, and common workflow Easier to manage EV Enhancements for multi-tenanting / large customers More scalable Public Folder archiving IBM DR 550 New IBM Compliance Storage system Menu selectable from VAC Centera enhancements Retention Classes Privileged delete as required by certain customers Support for enhanced Centera authentication A big focus of 6 is internal as our customer base grows in both size and complexity we must make investments inside of our product to support those environments. A more “admin friendly” Vault Console is but one area where we have updated our product. We are taking the “most used customer changes” and exposing via menus. Addition of IBM DR550 shows customers we continue to focus on their needs and new platform requirements. Our Public Folder structure has been specifically updated for customers with millions of PF’s across hundreds of servers in geographically disperse locations. Additions with Centera reflect changing market conditions that are appearing as Centera is deployed more globally and in more secure environments. VERITAS Enterprise Vault

14 File System Archiving Features
01/02/2020 File System Archiving Features SIS Single instance now done between documents across Windows servers Placeholder services on proprietary servers NetApp filers - requires on OnTap 7 “Runaway application” prevention For user / admin applications - stops them from being recalling too many files at once Recall rate limit option – slows recall rate for too many files at once Large files Previous 100Mb restriction removed Version control Delivering the version control functionality in VAC Versioning support of number files to keep in the archive EV Building Blocks supported Failover for HA environment designs available via Professional Services Some features were available early in 5.0 SP3 were prerequisites to functionality in 6 PS has a practise on making FSA failover ready in High Availability environments VERITAS Enterprise Vault

15 SharePoint 2003 SQL Features
01/02/2020 SharePoint 2003 SQL Features Adding archive support for the SQL-based store introduced in Windows Sharepoint Server Archiving is driven by multi-version capability – all versions are archived, older versions are pruned User access to archived versions is provided via an extension to the standard WSS “version history” UI Search and restore functionality is available All metadata stored and indexed Single Instance Storage for items in SharePoint Continued support of V1 store (BCDL – backward compatible document library) within WSS Helps upgrade migration Policy rules based archiving Transactional processing to delete old versions of docs It’s a new year, and an exciting new addition is the latest version of SPS. In many ways what a customer would see with our FSA product is now reproduced in our SPS 2003 SQL implementation. We’re not abandoning existing customers on V1 stores, we provide them a way to move onto the more robust SQL store. VERITAS Enterprise Vault

16 PST Management Features
01/02/2020 PST Management Features New services model More scalable and more manageable Locator – looks for PSTs Server side pull mode - finds PSTs on the network, either via profiles or via full disk scan, and maps them to target archives Client side push mode – finds PSTs on a PC, and maps them to target archives, admin controlled Collector – copies located PSTs Server and Client versions – move located PSTs to a common collection point Client version – breaks up PSTs to deal with slow lines, and verifies content on transfer Migrator – imports PSTs into Enterprise Vault Archives the messages held in the collected PSTs Parallel migrators for maximum throughput Offline Vault – PST contents also copied into offline Vault Increased scalability and easier to implement One of the major exposures of archiving for a customer is PST files laying about all over their infrastructure on servers, desktops, and laptops. The Locator/Migrator searches for PST’s and logs them so administrators can find them and pull/push them to a location to migrate them into EV. For users who want their content that was in PST’s available, the data can be made available in Offline Vault as any other message can be based on size, or title. VERITAS Enterprise Vault

17 Categorization & Filtering Capabilities
01/02/2020 Categorization & Filtering Capabilities New custom filter that has flexibility for specific ways to archive and manage content Item selection: based on sender, recipient, title, message direction (internal, external, etc.) or other property Action: archive, don’t archive, delete, move to wastebasket EV category, retention policy, target archive (note: category defines the defaults for these settings as well as the properties to be indexed) A plug-in filter driven by XML defined rules Categories introduced as an EV concept Independent of particular archive targets Allows you to define retention policy, target archive and properties to be indexed via flexible rules There is a default category to gain experience Results are shown by the various EV search mechanisms XML is used for all definitions Customizable configuration files for site specific needs Categorization is the most important area that EV can help you with your environment. Document and Record management systems depend heavily on users ability to correctly reflect their workflow via categories. With 6 we are delivering this for a higher level granularity, in the future we will be indexing automatically based upon categories. Categories exist in Microsoft Office 2003 will also be indexed as well as documents stored on file systems. For customers who want to script or insert content to Enterprise Vault, we are delivering a new customer filter capability. Previously this capability was only available via custom code development, now all customers have access to this valuable tool. VERITAS Enterprise Vault

20 End User Enhancements New client actions for Outlook & OWA
01/02/2020 End User Enhancements New client actions for Outlook & OWA Forward and Reply as in Outlook to give equivalent functionality Delete means Delete to insure that a message is deleted from the Vault when deleted in Outlook OWA Wizards for ease of configuration to aid in reliable deployment Client Languages Expanded User applications translated for Outlook, Web App, Archive Explorer English, French, German, Japanese, Danish, Spanish, Italian, Modern Hebrew No translation for the Vault Admin Console (VAC) The updates for Outlook & OWA are to do a “level set” of functionality between the two platforms as we have unified on newer versions of MSFT products. New languages are always under consideration from us, we typically evaluate sales as a percentage of overall market before taking a decision on adding a new client language. We do not translate at this time our Vault console as we have not had a lot of requests for it to date. VERITAS Enterprise Vault

21 Enterprise Vault™ Integration into VERITAS Products
01/02/2020 Enterprise Vault™ Integration into VERITAS Products For our larger customers, here are the initial goals, designs and functionality for EV + NBU. As NBU and EV release “trains” are on separate tracks, work has been scheduled and performed in November 2004 to stage for 2005 deliverables. All dates are TBC, but approved by each product team and in planning for release as of the release of this document. VERITAS Enterprise Vault

22 Enterprise Vault™ Integration with Veritas – Why?
Allow customers to have a tight integration with one vendor for their archiving & backup needs Provide the ability to “migrate” Enterprise Vault™ files from secondary disk storage to tertiary tape storage Provide the ability to retrieve files from tertiary storage to secondary storage Give customers flexibility to write archival content to both disk and tape subsystems for Total Information Management™ Provide the ability to duplicate, vault and expire tertiary storage

23 Enterprise Vault™ & NetBackup™ Integration: When?
NBU integration is coming in three “waves” and the architecture is agreed Use case scenario meetings between Engineering leads and PM’s for NBU and EV occurred 11/04. Integration points agreed at meeting for both products. Release content planning is in progress in each product development team for future releases We have feature requirements for both products on the engineering schedules now for upcoming 2005/6 releases. Compatibility testing is being performed for our V6 release which will ship in late Q1/05 This will give customers confidence that the products can coexist in a complimentary manner. Using NBU Media Manager as a storage target will occur in V6 mid-2005 This maintenance release will allow for EV to write to NBU as a storage device via NBU Media Manager. This will give customer an integration to archive Enterprise Vault data to tape With the Enterprise Vault™ 7 release we will enhance the products to allow for ingestion from NBU sources, as well as migration of tertiary sources.
