Basketball Positions Point Guard Shooting Guard Small Forward
There are five (5) typical player positions in basketball: Point Guard Shooting Guard Small Forward Power Forward Center

Point Guard Generally the shortest and the fastest player on the team
Possesses a control on dribbling, passing and out side shooting skills.

Shooting Guard A shorter and fast player but usually taller than a point guard. Expected to be a good passer and long range shooter.

Small Forward Taller and quicker than guards.
Known for ball handling, passing, long and close range shooting, defence and rebounding abilities.

Power Forward Power forward is the biggest player after center.
Primarily responsible for rebounding and defence.

Center The biggest, tallest and the slowest player.
Deals with inside shooting, getting rebounds and blocking the shots.
