During the time of Ancient Greeks Athens was the center of POWER ART SCIENCE PHILOSOPHY

4 Athens The Parthenon, sit on top of a hill in the center of the city, is her shrine. She is the patron of the city of Athens.

6 Athens is a “polis” The Acropolis The Asty The Chora

7 The Acropolis was built on a hill in the middle of the city of Athens.
Surrounded by stone walls, originally the people could retreat when the city was attacked. Later it was used for temples (and as a fortress)

8 The Acropolis At the center of Acropolis is the Parthenon that was dedicated to the goddess Athena and was also used to store gold. But in the Acropolis there were other temples too (Temple of Athena Nike and Erechtheum)

9 The Acropolis On the slope of Acropolis were theatres too: the Theatre of Dionysus and the Theatre of Herodes Atticus. Both of them were so good that all people (up to ) could see and hear the play. Parthenon Theatre of Dionysus Theatre of Herodes Atticus

11 The Asty The Asty was where the people lived and where the agorà was. The agorà was surrounded by government buildings like the Mint, where coins were made, and the Strategeion, where the Strategoi, military leaders, met.

12 The Agorà The Agorà was a place for people to meet and discuss ideas on philosophy and government. This is the place where the DEMOCRACY of ancient Greece first came to life.

14 The Chora The polis was surrounded by the Chora, the country.
Shepherds and farmers lived and worked there.

15 The city of Ancient Athens reached its peak during the leadership of Pericles from 461 to 429 b.C
This period was called the AGE OF PERICLES.

16 The age of Pericles During this time, Pericles promotes democracy, the arts and literature. He also built many of the city great structures including rebuilding much of the Acropolis.
