Core Skills Advanced Skills The main rules Long Serve Short Serve Return of Serve Overhead Clear Drop Shot Serving- everytime there is a serve, a point is scored…whoever wins the point serves Serving – you must serve from behind the service line Scoring– whoever wins the rally, adds a point to their score Badminton can be played in singles or doubles Flick Serve Footwork and court positioning Regulations Components of fitness for Badminton The Badminton court (below) states the regulations for Singles and Doubles. Badminton can be played individually or with a partner First to 21 points is the winner The winner of the point serves, and contiues to do so, until they lose a point. Speed – so you can move around the court quickly Agility – so you are able to move to the shuttle and get it over the net Reaction time – to enable you to get to the shuttle and react to where it goes Power – so you are able to get the shuttle over the net (smash shot) Key vocabulary Forehand shot – a return made with the palm of the hand facing the direction of the stroke Backhand shot – a return made with the back of the hand facing the direction of the stroke Side-line – this is the edge of the playing area and will vary with singles and doubles play Net – the net is 1.55m high and can’t be touched by the players Service Line – all players must be behind the service line when serving
