Mobileye, Volkswagen, and Champion Motors bring Mobility-as-a-Service to Israel
3
Pre- Commercialization
Cornerstones Project Overview Service Summary Project PINTA is a JV with VW- group, Champion Motors and Mobileye for launching MaaS in Israel with commercial deployment in 2022 Commercialization of Full-Stack MaaS offering SDS, Vehicles, Fleet Operations & Fleet Control Center, Mobility Intelligence, Content Operational fleet of Self-Driving EVs until 2022 First deployment in Tel-Aviv Scale up to cover all of Israel Project Timeline & Phases 2019 2021 2023+ 2020 2022 1 2 3 4 Development & Testing Commercialization Scaling Pre- Commercialization
4
Project Phases The service covers the most relevant urban area of Israel by 2022 Scaling approaches Scale into Metropolitan area Increase granularity of existing area Add additional special routes 2019 Phase 1 Pre-Development 2020 Phase 1.1 Development 2021 Phase Phase 3 Pre- Commercial 2023 Phase 4 Scaling 15km 33km 111km (17 km²)
5
Commercial deployment
Commercial deployment is different than testing…. Commercial deployment Examples No Driver! L4 Vehicle
6
Regulation Commercial deployment requires regulatory framework
Regulation main advantages Clarity of legal risks Limiting unnecessary liability – civil and criminal Safety by design Public acceptance and trust
7
Clearer and more absolute driving rules
Advantages /opportunity Amorphous Clearer and more absolute driving rules Define before the event and not after the fact The goal should be the approval of autonomous decision-making systems prior to its deployment and, in the long term, the specification of clear rules for decision-making systems that would be applicable to any such autonomous decision-making system (regardless of manufacturer).
8
Automated vehicle safety
What does “safety” mean for an autonomous vehicle? And how can we define it in a way that is satisfactory to society? But how do we definitively show that AVs can do the same? We first need to define what safety means for and Autonomous Vehicle. It is one of the most important questions the industry still answer: how do we know these vehicles are safe and deserve a license to drive?
9
RSS: A Formal Model for AV Safety
A mathematical model that formalizes a common sense interpretation of safe driving What is a dangerous situation? What is the proper response to a dangerous situation? What does it mean to be reasonably cautious? What assumptions can the AV make about the behavior of others? In summary, RSS is an open and transparent, industry driven standard that provides verifiable safety assurance on the decision making capabilities of an AV. This is just a first step, we must continue as an industry, to answer tough questions about this technology. Because as we drive, we are constantly balancing safety vs utility, like how quickly we merge onto a road from a blind corner, that makes assumptions about our own behavior and the behavior of others. What assumptions will we similarly grant to AVs? Transparent Safe Affordable Useful
10
Responsibility Sensitive Safety (RSS)
Formalize Human notions of safe driving Identify A Dangerous Situation Execute The Appropriate Response As so we proposed Responsibility Sensitive Safety, a formal mathematical model that does three important things: It formalizes human notions of safe driving. When we drive, we think about maintaining a bubble around our car, to the front, rear and side What is a safe distance around the vehicle at all times? (CLICK) We can then clearly identify a dangerous situation. When has our safety envelope been compromised? When has the planning module recommended an action that would put us in danger? When has another driver made an unsafe maneuver? And finally what proper response should we execute to return to that safe state? Keep a safe distance longitudinally & laterally Safe distance compromised in both directions Brake to restore safe longitudinal distance

Advantages of RSS- summary
Balancing safety with usefulness (usefulness as a safety measure) – reasonable worst-case scenarios 2. Balancing these interests is the responsibility of state and society – regulation 3. Pre-approval and not ex post examination – for safety, clarity and trust 4. Transparency and the answer for "black box" of AI
