Best Practices Livestock Identification Read the help sheets for staff on entering the weigh-in animal species into 4-H Online (market beef, sheep, market meat goat) Provide help sheets to families on how to identify and input each animal type into 4-H Online Require ALL animals to be identified in 4-H Online – both county fair and state fair animals Do not accept paper ID forms for non-weigh in animals; have the family input the information themselves into 4-H Online Offer computer access in county office for families without internet access to come in and identify animals in 4-H Online Encourage county office and/or clubs to have an “ID Night” where youth can identify their animals in the system Send out reminders weekly via , newsletter, text message, Facebook, etc. about the identification deadlines: February 1 – Market Beef May 15 – all remaining species (except rabbits) July 1 – Rabbits Type in the chat box any unique ideas you do in your county

10 Weigh-Ins/Retinal Imaging
Again for 2020: Counties invoiced for $5/head fees (U-bill) Visiting animals will be billed to home county’s U-Bill Home county must input animal data into 4-H Online Be sure to mark the “Retinal Images” box in 4-H Online for State Fair animals County staff will upload images to shared CyBox folder – Include county name (i.e. “Story Market Beef 2020”)

12 Ear Tags – Enter Correctly!! Both in 4-H Online & Retinal Machine
USDA-type Tag Enter as: JJS8481 Do NOT enter the “42” Do NOT enter your 2-digit county code Be sure to tell your volunteers/staff!!

13 State Fair Swine ID – change for 2020
Either swine animal type is eligible for State Fair DNA punch tag required Counties ordered tag materials from State 4-H Office State Office will ship materials out to counties $8.00/tag will be invoiced based on order. ALL swine need a USDA tag (JJO1234 for example) State Fair swine will need a DNA punch collector – tag does NOT remain in the animal’s ear Enter BOTH tag numbers in 4-H Online as usual – JJO1234; DNA 4521

14 State Fair Swine ID – Tagging/Submitting DNA samples (same process as previous years) County staff can DNA tag pigs Or, have 4-H’er get tags/tagger and bring back DNA samples in special envelope Counties mail each kid’s envelope of DNA samples via trackable source (UPS, FedEx) as one group by May 15th

15 Aksarben Animal ID Again for 2020
ALL Aksarben animals will be both identified AND entered for the show through Aksarben County staff will not handle any paperwork, payment, or DNA hair samples (no retinal images either) Families will go online and submit ID and show entries on their own

16 2020 State Health Requirements – coming soon
Fair Health Reminders 2 Options for Fairs Require Certificate of Veterinarian Inspection (CVI or Health Paper) of the animals Have animals inspected by a vet UPON ARRIVAL (not several hours or days after unloading) 2020 State Health Requirements – coming soon ***CHANGE FOR 2020 Swine – IF you require a CVI, it MUST be within 7 days of your exhibition

County Fair Swine Show Application & Reporting Fair Application Form – at least 30 days prior to show Fair Show Report – within 5 days after fair show Forms on 4-H Swine page ALL swine need a tag for show reporting purposes

County Fair Poultry Show Application Form Fair Application Form – at least 30 days prior to show Pullorum-Typhoid Testing Antigen is expected to be in supply Requirement for testing back for 2020 fairs as usual

20 Beef Adding Bred & Owned Breeding Heifer Show
Each breed will show, then the bred/owned eligible heifers will follow in that breed Angus Angus (Bred/Owned) Heifer’s registration papers MUST indicate animal was raised by 4-H member at check-in

21 Dog Held statewide dog judge’s training– Nov. 2019
Will post a list of attendees for county fair judge hires 2nd Dog Judge’s Training – coming in February 2020

22 Horse Class Change 2020 : Add Ranch Horse Walk/Trot (Grades 5-8; Grades 9-12)

23 Meat Goat NEW RULE FOR 2020: 4-H/FFA No-Fit Shows:
No use of adhesives, paint, color, oils, other aerosols or powder products allowed Same Rule for 2020: No clipping or shearing in the barn; goats must come show-ready (same as sheep rule)

24 Sheep NEW RULE FOR 2020: No cable halters allowed in any sheep shows (4-H/FFA/Open) “Pedigree Wether Dam” – Rule Clarification All breeds accepted. Animals must be registered, with papers presented at check-in. Only purebreds are eligible to show in purebred classes Any percentage papered animals will show as a commercial ewe. Classification will be based off of registration papers. Classifying Speckle-Face/White-Face Lambs: 3-person committee to classify lambs at check-in

25 Swine Ractopamin/Paylean Issue: State Fair: Substance will be allowed
Residue issues and liability issues if substance is found, but is “banned” – stays in animal and facilities for considerable time County Fairs: Check around with local lockers or other packers County decision on allowing/banning the feed additive

County & State Fair Certification due by July 1 (county could set earlier date for early fairs) Animal Care & Disclosure Statement (drug affidavit) – required for all county/state fair exhibitors (beef, meat goat, sheep, swine) (horse – state fair only) YQCA Youth Online Option ($12/youth) Face to Face Instructor-Led ($3/youth) – if county YQCA Face to Face Instructors (county staff) Free online certification – contact Mike State 4-H Office to add your name to certified list Provides county staff with materials to teach face to face trainings
