The MIP Program started in with 1 First Grade Class and 2 Kindergarten Classes. Currently we have Kindergarten through 8th grade (approximately 450 students). 7 MIP Statistics SBA Standard 2018/19 - Testing
Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) System The Smarter Balanced Assessment System utilizes computer based tests and performance tasks that allow students to show what they know and are able to do. It is based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics and has three components designed to support teaching and learning throughout the year: the summative assessments, the interim assessments, and the Digital Library of formative assessment tools.

MIP Students met and exceeded standards compared to CUSD District Wide average in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. Year-over-year improvement! 2017/18 Scores: ELA – 60 District / 68 MIP (+5 District; +7 MIP) Math – 62 District / 77 MIP (+3 District; + 3 MIP)

11 MIP Statistics AAPPL Mandarin Proficiency Test 2018/19 - 5th Grade
The ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) is a performance assessment of standards-based language learning across the three modes of communication (Interpersonal, Presentational, and Interpretive) as defined by the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning. The AAPPL assesses Interpersonal Listening/Speaking, Presentational Writing, Interpretive Reading, and Interpretive Listening, and ratings are assigned according to the ACTFL Performance Descriptors for Language Learners.

16 Friends of MIP – Who we are
Who are the Friends of MIP? 501(c)(3) non-profit parent organization to advocate for and support the Mandarin Immersion Program in the Capistrano Unified School District. Friends of MIP’s primary goal is to raise funds to support the programs in MIP that are not funded by normal school district funds. CUSD Board Expectations Any costs above and beyond what CUSD provides will need to be covered through fundraising, grants and partnership efforts.

Instructional Assistants - Help support teachers with daily classroom details Professional Development Training - Training and knowhow to collaborate and pioneer immersion teaching methodologies. Technology - Learning equipment; computers, smartboards, and electronic learning programs. Mandarin Culture and Enrichment - On-Campus cultural & enrichment opportunities Library - Mandarin language and cultural books Operational Expenses - Financial fees, website, insurance, etc.

22 Ambassador Program Mission: To develop a parent network to unify and strengthen the Mandarin Immersion Program families through direct relationships; information and guidance. Objectives: Community outreach Fortify parent network Resources for parents Bridge board and community Ambassadors: All current board members are all ambassadors. Need volunteers for each grade level, especial lower grade levels. Make new friends! Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten - Lilo & Stitch

MIP Gala 2/22/20 2020 Gala Location: The Hills Hotel The MIP Gala is our biggest fundraiser of the yearI It’s a fun night out to honor and celebrate our teachers with fellow MIP parents, teachers, staff, CUSD Administrators, and other sponsors of our program. Our goal this year: $90,000 Silent Auctions Live Auctions Dinner with MIP Community and Sponsors Dancing Fun party games
