2 What is the Help Kids Live Free From Hunger Campaign? (March 6, 2020)
All Food & Friends programs must participate in Live Free to receive CFGW Food & Friends (partnership) funding YOUR fundraising campaign. Every dollar your program raises stays in YOUR school and supports YOUR Food & Friends Program! LIVE FREE helps to: Sustain program longevity and build program independence; Build community awareness and support FLEXIBLE and ADAPTABLE: The campaign is flexible. Your program is unique… What will you do? Live Free day is on Friday March 6, 2020 The Help Kids Live Free from Hunger (Live Free) Campaign is run throughout our Central West Region to help raise needed funds for our student nutrition programs. All student nutrition programs that receive funding through Food & Friends must take part in the Live Free campaign in order to receive Food & Friends funding. The idea around the campaign is that students and staff pledge to ‘live free’ of something for the day (like electronics, or their morning coffee) and then donate a toonie to the campaign in support of those who live without. YOUR fundraising campaign: Every dollar your program raises stays in YOUR school and supports YOUR own Food & Friends Program! Live Free helps to: Sustain program longevity – fundraising to support your program helps to sustain its longevity by becoming more financially independent. Set an ambitious fundraising goal and strive to achieve it! Build community awareness and support. – connecting with the community and sharing the need for your student nutrition program will help you build support for your program. Flexible and Adaptable: Although the idea around the campaign is to make a pledge and donate a toonie, we find that doesn’t always work in every school, so you have the flexibility to make it your own – as long as you include the Live Free messaging in your campaign. Eg. Special Days – kids donate a toonie to attend a beach day, crazy hat day, PJ day Sell a special treat every Friday for a month or sell a special lunch e.g. – mac and cheese, homemade soup Dance-a-thon Pie in the face or become the principal for a day You can also run your campaign anytime between Jan1 – Mar 6. As long as the money raised flows through the Children’s Foundation.

3 Ideas to Make your campaign successful:
Leadership – Find a champion for the cause among the students - an influential, relatable leader/group. Competition – A healthy dose.  Food & Friends Awards (4 per region - $250 each) 1. Most Improved 2. Most Raised per Capita 3. Most Raised Online 4. Children’s Foundation Spirit Award. Social Media – Make use of the students’ media and communication tools. eg. Instagram, Twitter Community Involvement – Invite people! Fundraising Goal - How much do you need to raise to make up your deficit? Hint: take a look at the budget that we’ve asked you to complete. Set an achievable goal and strive to win! Live Free is not included in the 20% funds raised by the program. Leadership – Find a champion for the cause among the students - an influential, relatable leader. Eg. the Me to We group, student council, leadership classes. Competition – A healthy dose, of course!  Have classes try to raise the most funds, or donate the most food eg. crackers/cereal or a specific list of nutritional-guideline approved foods. Food & Friends also offers 4 awards per region: Most Improved, Most Raised per Capita, Most Raised Online, and the Children’s Foundation Spirit Award. Each award is $250 for your program. Social Media – Make use of your social media outlets to spread the word to the school community and community at large. Get the Community Involved – Connecting with the community and get them involved in your campaign. Invite people – invite VIP’s to attend your program to share a meal/snack with the students or host a school wide-breakfast and invite the community to join.
