WEBSITE & ENROLMENT PROCESS BENEFITS
Less Data Entry Less Finance Admin Accessible and User Friendly 38% of people will leave a website if they find the layout unattractive. Voice shopping (Alexa, Google Home) is estimated to be 40 billion in the U.S. by 2020 5 million Australians voted early. Automated/Personalised Communications The use of emojis in marketing messages increased 775% from 2015 to 2016. = Reduced administration labor = More time doing what you love!!! GOOD WEBSITE & ENROLMENT PROCESS BENEFITS: Less data entry. (time saver) Exceptions: IT illiterate / school groups CSV upload > merge members Less manual finance (time saver) Avoid cash handling and bank transfers. Download finance report > upload to Xero/MYOB Accessible & User Friendly (more entries, less phone calls about the course because the info is readily available) Automated communications (time saver > easier to send more coms > better retention) =Reduced admin time 80% entries will enter autonomously 20% entries require your assistance More time doing what you love SUMMARY These are the points I want to get across to all DSCs. Course content is great because it’s what we enjoy. Admin processes haven’t progressed with current trends because we haven’t stepped back and accessed. SLIDE END 5:45PM DSC Admin Forum

Marine Act Established in 2017 through Ports and Marine Legislation
Amendment Bill Objective was to mirror public safety duty that already exists in Occupational, Health and Safety Law to enable Marine Safety Victoria to monitor compliance and promote good practice through guidance, audits and, if needed, enforcement action. Intention was not to establish new obligation: The incidents that highlighted safety risks associated with events were managed by quasi commercial event managers Recreational boating events run by volunteer based organisations who are not “employers” are not covered and have never been the focus of legislative changes However, it should be recognised that masters of recreational vessels, other persons involved in operation of a vessel and passengers all already have safety duties under the Marine Safety Act 2010 to take reasonable care.
13
Marine Act cont Safety duty for boating activity event managers
Safety duty came into effect on 30 June 2018 Duty is to ensure safety, so far as is reasonably practicable What does this mean: Need to identify and understand the safety risks associated with the proposed boating activity event Think about what can be done to eliminate or minimise risk: what is practicable? Risk controls can be costly, what level of risk control is reasonable? Starting point is what constitutes good practice Focus is on improving risk management and avoiding safety incidents In practice, enforcement action is rare No prosecutions for failure to fulfil safety duty under Marine Safety Act since 1 July 2012 Prosecutions under OHS only occur when there are significant failures i.e. no evidence of understanding of risk, no understanding of good practice and no precautions taken.

What does the data say? Of the 330 OutThere Sailing registrations, 247 post participation surveys were sent out (This difference is due to paper forms being illegible). 33 people then filled out the post participation survey. I have included some questions and responses in the following slides. All are direct responses and are non-identifiable. OutThere Sailing

What did you like most about the program?
The program provided was fun and challenging for my son and I thought the cost was very reasonable compared with other sporting activities. The freedom to relax and sail a boat at leisure. The fact they can learn more and be outdoors The experience and being able to learn how to sail in such a short time Separated from the younger children and treated age appropriate Hanging with friends with something to do (structure) Fun casual structured atmosphere Everything. I loved learning how to use the sups and wind surfing and fun games with sailing, and especially the motorboats, and going out to the seals, it was all very enjoyable. Cost and opportunity to try something new.
19
What did you least like most about the program?
Lack of skill of facilitators to work with and engage young people. General disorganisation. Maybe a little more variety would've been good, I know it depends on weather but if we did a wider variety of activities it would be even more fun My daughter found the physical aspects somewhat challenging and uncomfortable so she learnt that she was not an absolute enthusiast nothing really would like to know more about other activities that are available They spent most of the time listening not doing, so it wasn't engaging
20
What does the program need to engage and retain people aged 14-17?
Promotion via social media. • Various opportunities • Like able and minded teens cool & funky 2. Not cumbersome 3. Cheapish Food. (: 2. Friendship... maybe like 'bring a friend' sort of thing. Or make new friends Advertise at schools? Advertise on social media Make it fun and exciting Close to the water in summer Have engaging sessions that allow independence to some degree. Simplify theory based talks and add engaging components to let teens engage in this activity. Teens seem to like food. So I'd suggest supplying food ? 😂 Short instructions but clear, don't over explain To Be Fun To be Exciting To be organised Young instructors Flexibility Good facilities and equipment
