Youth Empowered Solutions (YES!) is a nonprofit organization, based in North Carolina, centered on the idea that real community change cannot take place without the contributions of young people, specifically those from the ages of
YES! Youth Advocates develop skills such as public speaking and community advocacy tactics, gain critical awareness around the root causes of community issues, with an explicit focus on racial inequities, and then capitalize on opportunities to engage with their communities and change local and state policy.

3. JOB DESCRIPITION #YES4Change
This is a paid, part-time position, averaging 4-6 hours per week and starting at $8.50 per hour with an opportunity for a raise after a 90-day review. It does require occasional weekend engagements, including local travel.
This is a year-long job and with the expectation that you will be employed with YES! for at least a year, but hopefully until you graduate from high school! You will promote youth empowerment and racial justice through direct advocacy campaigns that aim to create positive change in your community. You will also lead trainings for other youth about advocacy. As such, you will actively participate in creating sustainable community change and help with administrative operations of Youth Empowered Solutions as a non-profit.

4. DAY TO DAY ACTIVITIES #YES4Change
Discuss current events and issues in society (environmental justice, water access and quality, tobacco prevention, etc.)
Practice public speaking
Conduct and compile research for different topics
Create social media campaigns
Attend community events
Create new activities for trainings with other youth
Facilitate discussions
Practice explaining difficult topics like racism
Write blogs for the YES! website
Participate in YES! leadership committee meetings
Come up with innovative ideas to advance the local advocacy campaign your team in working on

5. SPECIAL EVENTS #YES4Change
There are often times where YES! Youth Leaders are able to travel in order to attend national conferences, facilitate trainings and lead breakout sessions. When youth travel with YES! they are paid for their time spent working and NEVER have to come out of pocket for any of their expenses. 6. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Current 9th- 11th grader
*Must be able to work every Monday and Wednesday from 4pm- 6pm until school gets out
Interest in partnering with other youth and adults to create sustainable community change.
Collaborative leadership and instructional skills
Reliable and able to work independently as well as in a team format
computer/internet experience and/or willingness to utilize technology.
Willingness to learn how to: event plan, speak publicly, and facilitate large groups
You must be commercial tobacco product free and drug free
*Once school is out, we will change the hours to something earlier in the day. But once school is back in, we will shift back to working in the evenings.
