7 Different Card Types

8 Card Types Basic Credit Card
This is the basic credit card that is based on a line of credit from the bank. Credit Card with Rewards While this is also a credit card, it gives rewards back to the card holder for using it. As example, getting frequent flier mileage. Corporate Credit Card This is a basic credit card but is issued to an employee or principal of a business. Gift Card This is a stored value card. The balance of the card is prepaid to the business

9 Rates and Fees Processing Fees:
Fees charged on the individual transactions. The 2 most common pricing structures are Tiered and Cost Plus pricing. Both of these formats apply a rate (%) and a transaction fee (cents). Tiered Pricing - Merchant pays a Qualified Rate or Base Rate plus Transaction Fees on all V/MC/DISC transactions. Some transactions types will have additional surcharges. Cost Plus Pricing - This is when the true cost of every transaction Interchange Rates is passed onto the merchant, with a flat mark up on top of the Interchange Rates.

10 Qualified Rate The Discount Rate aka Qualified Rate
Consists of one percentage rate that the merchant pays for every Visa, MasterCard, or Discover transaction they process; plus a flat transaction fee. Two Types of Qualified Rates: Credit Discount Rate: This is all that is charged when it is a regular consumer credit card is processed as a "Card Present" (Swipe or Chip) transaction. No reward cards, no corporate cards, travel and entertainment cards Offline Debit Discount Rate: This is all that is charged on debit cards that are processed as a "Card Present" (Swipe/Chip) and receipt is signed by the customer (no pin). 70% of all card transactions will fall under these categories Example: 1.75% + 10 cents

11 Surcharges Also known as MID-QUALIFIED and NON-QUALIFIED surcharges.
Surcharges apply to CERTAIN Visa and MasterCard transactions Reasons for Surcharges. Card-not-present transactions (any type of card) Rewards cards Corporate/Business cards International or Foreign Cards There are over 500 card and charge types in America and Over 400 in Canada. In tiered pricing, all the various transaction types that are not considered qualified will be charged a Mid or Non Qualified Surcharge in addition to the Discount Rate.

14 Cost Plus Pricing Interchange Plus or Cost Plus pricing is the transparent pricing method. This is the way that we, as the Processor, are billed. This pricing is simply passed onto the merchant plus a flat markup. This format has 2 components: Interchange Rates: Fees get paid to the bank that issued the card .05% % Processing Fees/Mark up=Profit: Fees get paid to the Processor (MPX) .05 cents-50 Here’s an example with #s Merchant pays: Interchange & PLUS Mark up+ Transaction fee .25% & 20 cents This merchant is paying 25 basis points above cost

15 Debit Cards • Signature (Offline) Debit: A debit card transaction that is processed through the point of sale device as if it was a credit card and the receipt is signed by the customer. • Pin (Online) Debit: Debit transaction is approved via debit networks. Customer must enter their 4 digit pin number to authorize the transaction. • An internal or external PIN Pad is required for Online (PIN) Debit Transactions • Merchant pays the processor a flat fee per transaction plus • Pin Debit is processed by face-to-face transactions only as pin is required to be entered
