Bollinger County History And Information

2 County Seat Every county has a county seat.
The county seat is the location of the county’s government offices. Marble Hill is the county seat of Bollinger County.

4 William Mayfield College
William Mayfield College was started as a junior college. Students would move from there into a four year school.

5 The Alma Fisher School The Alma Fisher School is a typical one room schoolhouse. It would have held grades 1-8. It is currently being restored in Marble Hill.

6 One Room Schools There were many one room schools throughout southeast Missouri in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Consolidation began in the mid-1950’s.

8 The Massey House The Massey House is an example of an old log frame house. It has been restored and is open for tours. It gives visitors a good idea of what life was like in the late 1800’s in Missouri.

9 The Artesian Well Bollinger county has an artesian well.
This is a natural spring where the water is forced to the surface. It has been capped and many people come to fill up water jugs.

10 The Fire-tower The fire-tower of Bollinger County was used until the early 1960’s. Now it is not being used, but people can still climb to the top for a neat view of Bollinger County.

11 Laflin Bridge The Laflin bridge was built in 1908.
The US Army Corps of Engineers put the bridge in for farmers. Farmers still use the bridge today.
