who we are what we do why we do it … and how you can help

OUR MISSION The Anglican Missions Board enables the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, in a spirit of partnership, to share in the global dimension of Christ’s mission.

Marks of Mission The Five Marks of Mission are an important statement on mission. They express the Anglican Communion’s common commitment to, and understanding of, God’s holistic and integral mission Global initiative. We use them as a framework for all our projects.

To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
To teach, baptise and nurture new believers To respond to human need by loving service To transform unjust structures of society To safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth

We work toward these 5 Marks of Mission by:
Mobilising the Church to pray, give, go and tell mission stories Partnering with churches and associated Anglican and other mission agencies Resourcing development projects and emergency response (especially in our region) and mission partnerships

For example: Anglican Church in PNG; Australian Maori Missions outreach; Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East

NURTURE CLERGY AND LAY-MINISTRY SUPPORT NURTURE

For example: Short-term mission trips; support to clergy in Polynesia and Melanesia and to Maori clergy in Australia; 2019 International Missions Conference

EVANGELISE

For example: Emergency response (Tropical Cyclone Gita, PNG Earthquakes, Gaza); funding NZCMS Mission Partners

Churches are called to reach out to the community ‘proclaiming and demonstrating the gospel’. This is true at all times but particularly so when communities are in crisis. There is a need to demonstrate the love of Christ in practical ways and to offer spiritual support to those traumatised by a disaster. TearFund Why are we having a session on this this afternoon – when we could be outside enjoying the sunshine. First there is the Christian imperative to get out there and help

“We were here before the disaster, we were here during the disaster and we are here after the disaster. Agencies likes yours will come and go, but the church will always be here”

Our vision is to draw on God’s love to enhance resilience to climate change and natural disasters.
The Strategy will help guide the Anglican Church in strengthening resilience and builds on the many good initiatives already taking place. It also acknowledges that we are called to be responsible stewards in caring for God’s creation and that we hold the wellbeing of the planet in our hands.

For example: Climate change initiatives (Polynesia); small-scale vegetable production for Melanesian Sisters; provide water

PRESERVE

WATER TANKS POLYNESIA Kasavu and Cawaira, Vanua Levu in Fiji have unreliable and intermittent water supplies.

For example: Christian Care Centre (Solomon Islands); House of Sarah (Fiji); Anglicare Polynesia
