3 AREA research goal The research committee goal is to conduct an advocacy research program to continually advance AR technologies to the benefit of the AREA members and the wider AR ecosystem

4 Meeting - purpose and objectives
Explain in more detail the research proposal Allow members to ask questions / gain clarification 5 mins presentation 2 mins Q&A Create shared understanding: What is the problem being solved? Who’s problem is it (segment / role)? How the research could be conducted Expected outcomes Call will be recorded, split into clips per proposal and added to the voting web site

5 Conduct in meeting From Research Policy: Research committee will run a project proposals call that will act as forum for the proposers to pitch (e.g. explain in more detail, answer questions from the members). All members are welcome. No voting – judging – criticising etc takes place on this call. It’s an information exchange

6 Minimum Viable AR Glasses Requirements
Understand minimum requirements and expectations for key use cases that will trigger meaningful adoption of AR glasses from enterprises Minimum Viable AR Glasses Requirements Kate Fu, Sr. Manager Market Insights, Qualcomm

7 Objectives of This Research
Gather the minimum requirements for hardware and software of key use cases, such as shopping, merchandise picking, remote instruction Understand the acceptable form factors, including design, weight, thickness, tethering, and control, by use cases Learn the challenges enterprises face when adopting AR glasses, such as system integration, support/services, and employee training etc. Investigate the ideal pricing and expected ROI, and discover differences by use cases

8 Whose problem would be addressed?
Providers of enterprise wearable AR platforms would be able to Concentrate their resources on creating products with strong adoption interests Plan their roadmaps based on the short-term vs. long-term expectations from enterprises Enterprise safety managers would be informed of the top use cases and requirements for the initial adoption and get visibility to potential safety impacts that will come shortly Regulatory agencies or groups would Understand what use cases and requirements are up-and-coming as the first wave Prepare for needed regulations and reactions accordingly

9 How would this research be conducted? (1 of 2)
Target US and China as the markets Plan to conduct qualitative interviews with a total of 30 enterprise adopters and intenders across industries Will conduct 15 interviews for each market Qualcomm and AREA will work together to find the best vendor Kate will be the research manager who monitors the research process and report back to AREA regularly

10 How would this research be conducted? (2 of 2)
AREA will review the key findings and summary before concluding this research project The research project will produce: Transcripts of interviews 1 intermediate readout during the interviews A final readout right after the interviews A topline report – Released to AREA about 1 month after the fieldwork completion A final report

11 Benefits to AREA Members
AREA members can get a realistic read from enterprises about what level of user experiences and technological requirements will move the needle to initiate first meaningful adoption Long term impacts of this research AREA members will be able to plan their roadmap more efficiently and strategize their milestones to maximize ROI

12 After this meeting… Voting period begins
Voting information to be sent 22nd July AREA sponsor members votes will count 4 points Contributor and Non-Commercial/Academic members votes count 2 points Members who contributed one or more research ideas for consideration can vote. Their vote will count 1 point towards the idea of their choice Close of voting period is midnight (EST) Aug 10th

13 After voting… Research Committee will review
Member participation levels If there is a tie (two projects with equal number of votes) Materials for public campaign to solicit proposals Make recommendation to the Board of Directors Board will have one week to vote

14 Project RFP AREA will issue a public request for proposals (RFP)
Proposals will be accepted prior to Sep 16 Research Committee will Perform due diligence on proposals Recommend to BoD to award the project to one bidder Contract put in place to perform research for AREA
