2 Slavery Defintion Examples The act of buying and selling people.
African people were captured by European traders and sold as slaves in America.

3 Indentured Servant Definition Example
A person who agrees to work without pay for a certain period of time in exchange for food, clothing, shelter, and the promise of land. Some people from Europe came to the colonies as indentured servants so they could be free to live in America.

4 Middle Passage Definition Example
The forced voyage of enslaved Africans on ships across the Atlantic Ocean from West Africa to the West Indies as part of the triangular trade route. Ships traveling on the Middle Passage were overcrowded with poor living conditions. The trip took several weeks and many enslaved Africans died.

5 Uprising Definition Example A revolt
Uprising would occur when slaves would rebel or try to escape

6 Quarter Definition Example To shelter
On large plantations slaves lived in the slave quarters.

7 Investigate Definition Example To study carefully
Enslaved Africans investigated their surroundings before trying to escape.
