3 Activity #1 Stare at Me Stand Up-Hand Up-Pair Up!
When I say “go” you are going to: Stand up Put your hand in the air Walk around the room with your hand in the air until I say “stop” High five the person closest to you Keep your hand up if you haven’t found a partner

4 Activity #1 Stare at Me Stare at Me Stand and face your partner
When I say “go” you are to stare at your partner for 1 whole minute! No laughing No talking No smiling You are allowed to blink

5 We’re going to try an experiment here…
Activity #1 Stare at Me What do you think? 1. Was it hard to focus on your partner for 1 minute? 2. How many people laughed or looked away? 3. What were you distracted by? 4. Why was it so hard to focus? 5. Is it hard sometimes to focus on things like homework? We’re going to try an experiment here…

6 Activity #2 Video Test Scrambled Numbers! Take out a pencil
Your challenge is to circle the numbers in order starting with 1 and going through 8, then start again circling as many sets of 1-8 possible You have 1 minute! 9oFE

Activity #2 Video Test What do you think? 1. How far did you get? 2. Was it hard to listen/watch the screen and do the test? Why, what was hard about it? 3. What were some of the distractions from the TV? 4. Do you find sometimes that while you are doing your homework at home that you get distracted? What are some of those things that distract you? I have another challenge for you!

8 Activity #2 Video Test Scrambled Letters!
This time let’s try it without the TV Start with letter “A” and work through the alphabet to letter “Z”. When you reach “Z” start all over again with “A”.

1. Did you get any better the second time? 2. What was the environment like for you the second time? 3. What do you see as the important things to consider when you want to focus on something? What should the environment be like? 4. Why do you think you do better in a calmer environment? 5. How do you draw yourself away from the distractions? Distractions are not the only factor that can affect your ability to focus. Sometimes, it’s time that affects your performance.

10 Activity #3 Word Search Turn your word search to side #1
You have 1 minute to find as many words as you can. Words go: Forward, backward, up, down, diagonally 1. Did you find all of the words possible? 2. Did you feel rushed? Why? 3. Do you ever rush your homework? When? Why? 4. What happens when you hurry through something or rush? What details get left out?

11 Activity #3 Word Search Turn your word search to side #1
We want you to feel the difference it makes when you take more time and don’t rush your work. So this time, we will give you 3 minutes to do the word search on the other side. GO! 1. How many of you got better the second time? 2. The second one was harder, and you still did better? Why? 3. What can we do to create/allow more time for work? Let’s brainstorm! Let’s look at how you can make sure you complete your next projects successfully!

12 Activity #4 Make a List Making Time
List all the homework you already know you have to do for the night List all the other things that you have to do today List all of the things you would LIKE to do today Place a priority number next to the things that have to be done today. Use a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a high priority and 10 being a low priority. Put an amount of time it will take to complete each activity Identify any conflicts you foresee Bottom box: Write a couple of ideas that will help you be successful in structuring your time and priorities. Try to take this home and see if you can use it to set your time.

13 Study Skills We wise 8th Grade WEB Leaders have words of wisdom for you: It is important to get into a habit of good study skills, and the best thing you can do is focus on one thing at a time and prioritize what needs to done
