The selling aspect of your job, while important, can sometimes be overlooked when you get busy and customers are lining up. And, it can be even more challenging when the customer needs a new engine, transmission or other major component.

It all started in a dealership in 1924, and in 1946 they began remanufacturing. In ARI was born at a request of Ford Motor Company and 2015 RMP was renamed Holman Parts Distribution. Currently we consist of over 25 operating companies representing 17 manufactures, a Fleet leasing and management company and auto retail finance company.
Our History
Our parent company, Holman Automotive, was founded in 1924 when Steward C. Holman signed a contract with Ford Motor Company to become the area dealer in Merchantville, NJ. Steward Holman’s success led to many other opportunities in conjunction with Ford Motor Company. In 1939, he took over the area distributorship for Lincoln Mercury. This operation began at the Maple Avenue facility in Pennsauken, NJ, and after one year – as Merlin Motor Co. – relocated to Camden, NJ.
In 1946 the company began remanufacturing Ford engines and transmissions. This operation grew steadily, and in that same year Reconditioned Motors and Parts (RMP) was established, a Ford authorized remanufacturer, also located in Pennsauken, NJ. In 2015, RMP was renamed Holman Parts Distribution, Inc.
In 1947, the Holman partnership with Ford Motor Company continued when Ford asked Holman to organize a leasing and rental subsidiary to supply the RCA service fleet. This company was named Automotive Rentals, Inc., now known as ARI – the fleet management leader in North America with over 1.3 million vehicles under management.
Today, the Holman organization consists of over 25 operating companies which include Holman Parts Distribution, ARI the world’s largest privately held fleet leasing and management company, retail automotive dealerships representing 17 manufacturers and two small leasing and auto retail finance companies, Stewart Financial.

11. Selling a Transmission Repair
If you are on the phone with the customer, refer to the selling guide to be sure you cover every aspect of the operation of the transmission. If you are talking in person, point to the diagram on the selling guide as you explain how the transmission operates. Print and hand out the selling guide for transmissions.
Gauge how detailed to go with your explanation by observing how much the customer appears to understand about what you’re saying, and by paying attention to the questions he or she asks.

20. The Latest Technology – Bore Spray Welding
This is the type of information you will find on POWERSTROKEDIESEL.COM. In several applications, Ford also uses state-of-the-art bore spray welding. Bringing engines back to standard bore. No oversize pistons. All 6.0L and 6.4L diesel engines have standard bore.
This technologically advanced process, developed by Ford, uses a plasma jet to create atomized droplets of molten steel that are blown onto the cylinder walls of the engine block, building a brand-new, harder-than-OE finish. The cylinder bores are then diamond-honed, returning them to standard size.
This process is significant because it differs from other typical approaches.
For example, many remanufacturers will simply insert aftermarket sleeves into the cylinder bores. Over time, this process can cause them to become loose or distorted.
The Ford bore spray welding and diamond honing processes result in standard size cylinder bores that are in brand-new condition. This is another reason why remanufactured Power Stroke Diesel engines meet both OE power and federal emissions standards.

The Powertrain tab is under “Parts Product Line Information” on FMCDealer.com. Under the Powertrain tab you’ll find the registration section for powertrain units sold. It only takes a minute to register a unit and hit submit.

23. Register Powertrain Sales
Avoid any hassles, please register all powertrain sales when it is possible. VINs for model years 1999 and older cannot be registered. These VINs are still eligible for warranty coverage. Document the VIN, installation date, mileage, and the assembly serial number on the invoice or repair order. Provide your customer with a copy for their records.
