(2) The U.S. creates about 2.7 billion dollars worth of soy beans each year! (2) Over half of them are exported to other countries like China, Japan and Taiwan. 6 Soy Technology: Soycows!
A 'soycow' is a processing system that can grind and cook soybeans into soy milk. From the milk other products can be made such as soya “cheese” (tofu), yogurt and other soy foods. During the process, a pulp called “okara”, is also formed. Okara can be used in breads, spreads and other foods. *Soycows are a good fit for developing countries, who can employ workers for lower costs. * It can turn 4 pounds of soybeans into 4 gallons of soy milk, in 20 minutes! *Soycows have been introduced as small businesses in Guatemala, India, Kenya, Burkina Faso and several other countries. *Each soycow can employ 3-6 people. *Watch one in action!
