Your 5th Grade Newsletter September 9-13, 2019 Skills/Topics & Tests Topics / Skills Upcoming Tests & Quizzes ELA Writing/Reading *Narrative Essay Writing *Begin Summarizing Review Grammar *Begin Conjunction/Clauses Unit SS *None Spelling/Vocabulary dict – say, declare scrib/script – write graph/gram – write, draw, describe, record *Last essay is a grade! *Quizzes Every Friday! Math *Adding & subtracting decimals using base ten blocks, models, & the standard algorithm *We will begin multiplying whole numbers on Friday (4-digit by 3-digit). *TEST on Thursday, Sept. 12th *Multiplication QUIZ every Monday *HW QUIZ every Monday. Science *Unit 2: The Engineering Process *Complete Lesson 1 *Begin Lesson 2 and Lesson 3 *Practice Vocabulary at (refer to your Password Page to search) Announcements/Reminders *Check out the monthly School Calendar to keep up to date on events and due dates. *Math HW Quizzes Please practice at home with your child & review problems missed nightly. Students should be correcting their answers & recording the steps for solving those they missed as we check in class. *Common Assessments Sept. 26-Oct. 4 *TCAP scores in grades 3-5 will be calculated as 15% of a student’s second semester average in reading math, science, and social studies unless the BOE decides otherwise due to testing issues. *Multiplication Quizzes If your child does not have his/her multiplication facts memorized, please work on them at home. It is imperative to their success in math this year. A Multiplication Quiz will now be given every Monday.
