Part 3 14 September 2015

2 Warship Electronic Chart Display Information System

3 Export Approval        The Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine, Warship Electronic Chart Display System (WECDIS)  is an export controlled product and is thereby subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) of the United States of America as well as subject to the Export Control Act of the United Kingdom. Any export of WECDIS hardware, software and or technology requires appropriate export licence coverage by the US Department of State and the UK BIS as well as Security clearance from the UK MoD.

4 Plug-in architecture Core architecture Plug-in modules Design tenets
Essential sub-systems used by all projects Provide services used by plug-ins E.g. Interfaces, units management Promote commonality of behaviour, look and feel Plug-in modules Sub-systems that plug into the core architecture using “well-known interfaces” Provide features and associated GUI Can be extended to provide additional capability Can be replaced if different functionality required Can be removed if feature not required Design tenets Keep coupling between sub-systems to a minimum Design plug-ins to be extensible Separate “business logic” from GUI Target Management Charting Routes Operator Contacts Weapons Arcs Security MIL STD 2525 Core architecture

5 Key capabilities Network centric architecture
Built in multi-node capability 1000 VisionMaster nodes deployed in multi-node systems Tight integration between nodes Data is automatically shared Tight integration between ECDIS and Radar True Integrated Navigation System Between radar and ECDIS Same look and feel Same menus E.g. Alarm acknowledgement Consistency of data Easy for operator to create an accurate mind-map of the system Safer to use

7 Return to WECDIS Features
Countdown Marks Distances to Course Alterations marked on each leg up to 1nm before the alteration point in 1 cable intervals. Return to WECDIS Features

8 Additional Co-Ordinate Systems
The position can be referred to a number of geodetic datum's as well as the standard WGS 84 or WGS 72. In addition position can be displayed in other co-ordinate systems such as Military Grid or GeoRef. Positions can be easily converted between co-ordinate systems to aid Naval Gunfire Support Return to ECDIS /WECDIS Return to WECDIS Features

9 Linked Object Editor & Saved Templates
Allows the user to manually create either chart corrections or links to create their own Hydrographic Note from a template. Allows linking to other Digital Publications as they become available such as Pilots and ALRS Return to WECDIS Features

10 Return to WECDIS Features
Ownership Outline Enhancements Allows realistic representation of the subject vessel at the appropriate scale. Return to WECDIS Features

11 Return to WECDIS Features
Polar Stereo Graphic Allows the display of Polar Stereographic Charts – i.e those not drawn on Mercator/Transverse Mercator projections but top down views of the Globe. Return to WECDIS Features

12 Return to WECDIS Features
Relative Motion Allows the ship position to remain in the centre of the display or at the user offset rather than travelling across the display. Return to WECDIS Features

13 Return to WECDIS Features
Advance and Transfer Varies with Speed, Rudder angle, amount of turn and ship type Allows the user to apply ship specific turning data to determine the wheel over position for course alterations when planning pilotage Transfer Advance Return to WECDIS Features

14 Return to WECDIS Features
Other Ship Routes Allows other ships routes to be displayed as well as own or allows other plans to be imported for ownership use. Return to WECDIS Features

15 Return to WECDIS Features
Moving Havens Allows the display and management of Moving Havens for Submarine Waterspace Management and deconfliction. A moving haven is a designated body of water at specific depth within which a Submarine must remain at all times. It moves at a designated speed along the assigned nav track. Return to WECDIS Features

16 Return to WECDIS Features
Operator Contacts Allows the operator to display user defined contacts and allocate ID, Course Speed and warning ranges. Allows compilation of Surface Picture/General Ops Plot on the Navigation system. Return to WECDIS Features

17 Return to WECDIS Features
Search and Rescue Patterns Allows the user to display standard search and rescue patterns on a nominated position which can then be used for SAR Ops. Return to WECDIS Features

18 Enhanced Lines of Position
Allows the ships position to be determined using operator defined position lines/fixes rather than by radio navaid. Visual Bearing/Transit/Vertical Sextant Angle/Horizontal Sextant Angle/Depth Contour/Sounding/Range Return to WECDIS Features

19 Bottom Contour Navigation
Allows the user to conduct dived navigation and supports the construction of a “pool of errors” to best determine position. Return to ECDIS / WECDIS Return to WECDIS Features

20 Weapon Arcs Allows the user to display the safety arcs for weapons in order to conduct practice firings clear of other contacts. Also allows the splash points and ricochet dangers for medium/large calibre weapons to be displayed. Can be tailored to the user requirements. Return to ECDIS / WECDIS Return to WECDIS Features

21 Return to WECDIS Features
Tactical Grids Allows the user to display a user defined tactical grid. Return to WECDIS Features

22 Return to WECDIS Features
Clearing Bearing Allows the construction of visual bearings a round dangers at an appropriate distance such that they can be monitored visually – alarms automatically in the system when approached. NMT 030 a NMT 045 a = Standard to Stern Return to WECDIS Features

23 Return to WECDIS Features
4W Grid Allows the user to display standard 4W grid in user defined position, size and orientation. Return to WECDIS Features
