1 PRELIMINARY TASK 1: BREAK-UP SCENE
AMBER RIGSBY

2 SCENE DESCRIPTION The scene that my partner and I chose to do was a break-up scene. The pictures we took will depict the vulnerability and distress between both characters throughout the scene.

3 SHOT 1 Long Shot This is a long shot of the main girl by herself, walking from a distance This shot type is used to show how isolated she is and to make her look more vulnerable

4 SHOT 2 Two Shot This shot is of both the boy and girl; this is when the boy first comes on frame This two shot was used to show the link between the pair, and shows the distress between them both

5 SHOT 3 Over the Shoulder This is an over the shoulder shot of the boy over the girl’s shoulder, begging for forgiveness This shot is used to put the focus solely on the boy and his actions and/or expressions

6 SHOT 4 Over the Shoulder This is a shot of the girl over the boy’s shoulder, arguing with the boy This shot was used to emphasize only the girl’s distress at that moment

7 SHOT 5 Medium Close Up (Eye Level)
This is a medium close up of the boy from the shoulders up This shot is used to stress his facial expressions without getting to close to his face

8 SHOT 6 Medium Close Up (Eye Level)
This shot is of the girl from the shoulders up This medium close up is used to emphasize her emotions without getting too uncomfortably close

9 SHOT 7 Extreme Close Up This is a shot of only part of the boy’s face, emphasizing his eye and the tear rolling down his face This is used to stress his sadness

10 SHOT 8 Medium Close Up (Eye Level)
This shot is of the boy from the shoulders up, wiping away his tears This medium close up is used to show his emotions

11 SHOT 9 Medium Close Up (Eye Level)
This shot is of the girl from the shoulders up This medium close up is used to emphasize her distress

12 SHOT 10 Long Shot (High Angle)
This shot is at a high angle over the boy down on his knees begging her to stay This long shot with a high angle is used to stress how vulnerable and weak he is

13 SHOT 11 Long Shot (Low Angle)
This shot is of the girl walking away, alone This long shot with a low angle is used to show the power she has over the boy, and the strength she had to leave him

14 SHOT 12 Two Shot This shot shows both characters on frame
This two shot is used to end the scene to emphasize the now broken link between them

15 CRITICAL REFLECTION 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions? My scene uses different shot types based off of the research my partner and I conducted prior to filming. We used both over the shoulder and two shots because of the consistent use of them in both of the scenes we researched, One Tree Hill and Another Cinderella Story. We also used multiple medium close ups because of the continuous use of them in the break up scene in One Tree Hill. On the other hand, we decided to do a few long shots in our scenes as well, unlike in those we found in our research. There is only one brief long shot in the beginning of the scene in Another Cinderella Story, which was so brief that it would be hard to notice if not looking for it. We decided to challenge this and use long shots more than once to really emphasize the vulnerability and isolation of the characters.

16 CRITICAL REFLECTION (CONTINUED)
2. How did your production skills develop throughout this project? Throughout this project I feel that I became more comfortable behind the scenes. I became more at ease and enjoyed setting up the characters in certain positions and trying to help my partner hold the camera at the right place or angle. I learned the importance of camera positioning in scenes for films and/or television 3. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project? We integrated technologies by using a Canon T1i camera to take the pictures with.
