2 TG4e PAR Scope of Proposed Standard
October 19 TG4e PAR Scope of Proposed Standard The intention of this amendment is to enhance and add functionality to the MAC to a) better support the industrial markets and b) permit compatibility with modifications being proposed within the Chinese WPAN. Specifically, the MAC enhancements are limited to: TDMA: to provide a) determinism, b) enhanced utilization of bandwidth Channel Hopping: to provide additional robustness in high interfering environments and enhance coexistence with other wireless networks GTS: to increase its flexibility such as a) supporting peer to peer, b) the length of the slot, and c) number of slots CSMA: to improve throughput and reduce energy consumption Security: to add support for additional options such as asymmetrical keys Low latency: to reduce end to end delivery time such as needed for control applications Pat Kinney, Kinney Consulting LLC

3 Purpose of Proposed Standard
October 19 Purpose of Proposed Standard This functionality facilitates Industrial applications (such as addressed by HART 7 and the ISA100 proposed standards), and those enhancements defined by the proposed Chinese WPAN standard that aren't included in TG4c. This amendment addresses coexistence with wireless protocols such as , , , and Pat Kinney, Kinney Consulting LLC

4 October 19 Meeting Goals Hear presentations on proposed application spaces to be addressed with e amendment Discussion and group affirmation on specific application spaces targeted by TG4e Hear modifications to e proposal presentations Association of proposals to application spaces Selection of proposals to form baseline draft for specific application spaces Pat Kinney, Kinney Consulting LLC

5 Proceeding from Proposals to Draft
Define Application spaces: Define MAC behaviors that must be added/enhanced per application space Define those application spaces that TG4e will address Define MAC behaviors that proposals will add/enhance Review proposals based upon Application Space/MAC behavior TG selection of MAC behavior proposals or definition of criteria used for MAC behavior selection Draft changes

6 Proposed Application Spaces
Factory Automation: Michael Bahr Process Automation: Chol Su Kang Asset Tracking: Wei Hong Commercial Building Automation: Rudi Belliardi General Sensor Control (Industrial/Commercial): Liang Li Home Medical Health/Monitor: Seong-Soon Joo Telecom Application: Betty Zhao Information Service File Sharing Neighborhood Area Networks: Ben Rolfe Wireless Home Automation: Zafer Sahinoglu, Ben Rolfe RF4CE: P Kinney

7 MAC Behavior Categories
ACK Channel diversity Hopping (adaptive, black lists, etc) agility Superframe GTS TDMA Low Power Low duty cycle Overhead reduction Short MAC headers MESH support Path diversity Time synchronization Relative Access to absolute time Resource Scheduling Portability Fast association/disassociation Associationless Beacon scheduling Scalability

8 Next Steps Before January Interim
TG4e refines the MAC behavior categories to better address the MAC behavior needs For January Interim Proposers to define how their proposal addresses the MAC behavior categories At January Interim TG4e will select proposals based upon how they address the MAC behavior categories

9 Proposed TG4e Baseline Schedule
