2 It takes a little more to be a Tiger!
Middle School grades matter! We use the information for course placement. In high school, you create a permanent transcript. These grades will help determine your future options. Give careful attention to your choices now so you can get the classes you want and need. We do very few schedule changes in the Fall. Select classes based on: Graduation requirements Stretch classes, try something new and challenge yourself! Consider an Honors or AP class. Planning for YOUR future. Please do not select classes based on what your friends are taking. This is YOUR high school experience! 

3 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
(1 SEMESTER = .5 CREDIT) Category 24.0 Required 24.0+ Recommended English 4.0 Social Studies 3.0 Mathematics Science CTE 1.0 Health .5 Fitness 1.5 Arts* 1.0/2.0* *1.0 credit of Art can be substituted for a Personalized Pathway Elective to support your post-HS plan. Electives^ 7.0^ 5.0^ (+1.0 Math, 1.0 Science) 2.0 (or more) should be focused on your post-HS plan. If your Personalized Pathway is to a 4 Year College, 2.0 of your electives need to be World Language. Total 24.0

5 Personalized Pathway As part of the 24 credit diploma, you are asked to identify a post- high school plan and a Career Pathway. Your selection is not set in stone and can change from year to year. Mark the box for the T-2-4 Post- High School Plan you currently have and your potential Career Pathway.

Journalist, Graphic Design, Psychologist, Teacher, Photographer Multi-Disciplinary Ex. Specialized careers that merge pathway areas such as a Biomedical Sales, Interior Design, Teacher, Urban Planner

7 ENGLISH OPTIONS CIRCLE YOUR CHOICE
The difference between Honors and regular English: Required summer assignment: read 1 assigned book. The book and assignment will be posted on our web site as soon as it is available. More sophisticated reading and writing instruction. Prepares you for Honors in 10th and AP in the 11th and 12th grade.

8 MATH OPTIONS ALGEBRA The next step after 8th grade math. If you are earning a low C, D, or F in Algebra now, you might want to take Algebra again. GEOMETRY After Algebra in 8th grade if you are earning a high C or better. HONORS GEOMETRY After Algebra in 8th grade if you are earning a B or better. HONORS ALGEBRA 2 After Geometry in 8th grade if you are earning a B or better. HONORS PRE-CALCULUS After Algebra 2 in 8th grade if you are earning a B or better.

9 SCIENCE OPTIONS OR BIOLOGY MESA BIOLOGY HONORS CHEMISTRY HONORS
Full year of biological plant and animal sciences. MESA BIOLOGY Same as Biology, but only for girls & students of color. Work with WSU & EWU on special projects. HONORS CHEMISTRY Rigorous advanced options Strongly suggested that you have taken Algebra in middle school with a B or better. Chemistry - recommended for general interest in science or a focus on biological sciences. Physics - recommended for a specific interest in math or engineering. OR HONORS PHYSICS

10 FITNESS/HEALTH options
If you are taking Fitness/Health (or Health Science Careers) as part of your 6 period school day, you will get TWO electives. If you are taking Fitness/Health on SVL or postponing Fitness/Health, you will get to choose THREE electives. YOU must also sign up with SVL - writing it on this form DOES NOT register you for SVL. Go to their web site, register, print out the form, and bring it to your counselor for approval.

11 SELECTING ELECTIVES If you are taking SVL for Fitness/Health (box #4), draw a circle around 6th class AND Alternate #1. This will remind us that you get 3 electives (don’t forget to register with SVL for their course.

15 SELECTING ELECTIVES Neatly write the name AND course number.
#5 and #6 are the electives that you want the most. If you are taking Fitness/Health in SVL, you get 3 electives (draw the circle around #6 and Alternate #1) You MUST select different classes for ALL 4 Alternates. We will try to give you your 1st choice, but we need Alternatives if the classes fill up. 16 ZERO HOUR & 7TH HOUR (optional)
You can choose to take a Zero Hour (before school class) Debate or Jazz Band - must also be in Band during the day. 7th Hour is for Instrumental Small Ensemble/Pep Band (the band that plays at Football and Basketball games). You must also be in Band during the day. You are responsible for your own transportation for Zero Hour and 7th Hour classes.
