1 Technegas® ventilation single photon emission computed tomography images of an asthmatic subject (axial slices) at a) baseline and b) post-methacholine after 20% fall in forced expiratory volume in 1 s. Technegas® ventilation single photon emission computed tomography images of an asthmatic subject (axial slices) at a) baseline and b) post-methacholine after 20% fall in forced expiratory volume in 1 s. The graphs below are the correspondence frequency distributions of Technegas® intensity, which are estimates of relative ventilation. The colour bar between images a) and b) indicates Technegas® activity, with red being highest and purple being the lowest. The pattern of ventilation clearly changes, post-bronchoconstriction with ventilation moving ventrally in both lungs. A number of statistical indices could be derived from the frequency distribution, as part of future research in characterising patterns of ventilation and their change with interventions. Gregory G.
