2 When an animal eats a plant or another animal, a food chain has begun.
Food Chains When an animal eats a plant or another animal, a food chain has begun.

3 Food Chain All food chains begin with a producer, a plant that can make it’s own food. In the ocean, the producer is a microscopic plant called phytoplankton.

4 Food Chain The consumers in a food chain eat the producers or other consumers. Primary Consumers eat the producers, zooplankton is a microscopic organism that eats phytoplankton. Secondary Consumers eat the primary consumers, krill eat zooplankton Tertiary Consumers eat the secondary consumers, baleen whales eat krill

6 Food Chain Decomposers feed on the decaying remains of surface plants and animals that slowly sink to the ocean floor, where they live. Rock lobsers are an example of decomposers

7 Food Webs Food chains become a food web when two or more food chains overlap.
