2 Our Mission Our mission is to support your health and well-being during your time at Boston University.

3 Four distinct offices Primary Care Behavioral Medicine
Sexual Assault Response and Prevention Wellness and Prevention Services All offices maintain confidentiality in accordance with state and federal guidelines SHS is comprised of 4 distinct departments: PC BM SARP Wellness and Prevention Despite being part of a University, all of our offices, despite being part of a University, are held to confidentiality under their licenses which are governed by the Commonwealth of MA.

4 Eligibility Full time students
Part-time students that have Aetna Student Health Insurance Part-time students with private insurance are not eligible for ongoing care Any student can ALWAYS call for a referral to a local provider All full time students, regardless of their insurance, are eligible for services at SHS PT students with ASH are also eligible. Regardless of insurance, students can always call to get referral to one of many specialists in the community which we refer to.

Urgent clinical care Immunizations/ Flu shots Physicals Laboratory services Medical supplies Our primary care department serves our students like an urgent care center. Just like a typical Dr.’s office, you can call if you are feeling under the weather, and before even seeing a Dr. , can get advice from our nurse line.

6 Behavioral Medicine 3 locations Services provided
Charles River Campus, 881 Commonwealth Avenue, West 930 Commonwealth Ave BUMC, 85 West Newton Street, Suite 816 Services provided Evaluation and brief treatment (medication and psychotherapy) Referral to clinicians in the local community 24-hr coverage for psychiatric emergencies Campus based suicide prevention initiatives Behavioral Medicine is our University’s counseling center where we provide support and treatment around a variety of mental health issues. We provide assessment, brief treatment and emergency consultation when mental health issues arise. When longer term treatment is needed, we work with students to refer to resources on campus as well as in the community. All services we offer are 100% confidential. We also staff a 24/7 service for when psychiatric emergencies arise in the evenings or on weekends. In addition, we work with faculty and staff around the University to promote our Terrier’s Connect suicide prevention program which aims to have faculty, staff and students able to have supportive conversations around mental health.

7 Sexual Assault Response & Prevention (SARP)
930 Commonwealth Ave Services provided 24/7 crisis response Individual and group therapy Advocacy and support Programming to promote awareness and prevention of sexual assault, interpersonal and gender based violence The Sexual Assault Response & Prevention Center, also known as SARP, is a resource to any BU student who’s experienced sexual misconduct, which includes: sexual assault, rape, domestic or dating violence, sexual harassment, and stalking. SARP is a confidential resource on campus and provides students with accurate information and options if they experience sexual misconduct. SARP also offers several sexual violence prevention programs. This includes Step Up, Step In BU to teach students how to identify and interrupt situations that could lead to sexual violence [IF GRAD: This includes a new program specifically designed for graduate students to identify and interrupt situations that could lead to sexual misconduct.] As new BU students, you will also need to complete an online sexual misconduct training. You will receive more information about this training via .

8 Wellness and Prevention Services
Goal of helping students stay well with programs and services that promote well-being Condom Fairy program Collegiate Recovery Program Pop-up wellness events to promote mental health, sleep, and stress management Wellness & Prevention Services understands that BU students thrive when they’re healthy. Our office helps students stay well with programs and services that promote well-being on topics such as alcohol, cannabis, mental health, sleep, and sexual health. As graduate students, you may be particularly interested in: Condom Fairy program – which sends condoms and other safer sex supplies directly to your mailbox for free and in a discreet package Collegiate Recovery Program – connects undergraduate and graduate students who are in recovery from addiction and substance use disorders; host social events, assist with recovery support, and for those who are interested - conduct community outreach to help destigmatize addiction in our community Pop-up wellness events on the Medical campus – such as Massage Mondays, evening yoga sessions, and free resources for promoting sleep and stress management

Facilitate conversations about what we as members of the BU community can do to prevent sexual violence Graduate Assistants in Wellness & Prevention Services, Behavioral Medicine Community outreach, program facilitation, coordinate wellness programs Several of our departments also hire graduate students for part-time prevention roles. 10 Scheduling an appointment
Behavioral Medicine, SARP or Wellness and Prevention Call Primary Care Online Phone numbers for SHS are on the back of your BUID Scheduling an appointment can happen in a variety of ways. All numbers for SHS are on the back of your BUID. For Behavioral Medicine or Wellness, you should call the number on the back of your BUID. For Primary Care, appointments can be scheduled by calling or online using Patient Connect…. (change slide)

11 Online Scheduling: PatientConnect
Go to Log in with your BU ID and Kerberos Make Primary Care appointments Communicate with all your providers In addition to online scheduling, Patient Connect allows you to securely communicate with all of your providers a SHS. All you need is your BUID and your Kerberos password.

12 Immunization Clinics Print your immunization form and bring it along with your immunization records to the SHS as soon as possible. If your immunization record is incomplete, then you must attend an immunization clinic. Your ability to register for classes will be affected if your immunization record is incomplete. Complete your Incoming Health History Form ONLINE. Go to the SHS website and click on the “learn more” tab under “Incoming Health Form?”. On the next page, choose the health form for the Charles River Campus. We have several immunization clinics throughout the year which help to keep students compliant with the requirements of the Commonwealth of MA. In fact, we provider over 10K immunizations per year including flu shots and HPV shots.
