Surfaces are an learning tool, like your textbooks Surfaces are checked periodically for the best care Surfaces will be turned back in at the end of the school year All students will use devices to access resources, communicate, submit work, complete assignments, and increase efficiency as required by teachers. 4 Surface Expectations Take good care of school-issued device
Do not loan your device to anyone else Keep food & beverage away from device Disassembling, jail breaking, or hacking is not allowed Device must remain in protective case at all times Devices are used appropriately and meet school expectations Decorations (stickers, paint, drawings) cannot be on device The device belongs to Fulton County Schools and is not private Do not share your password with anyone but a trusted adult (guardian, teacher) Damage, loss, or theft is student responsibility (insurance option) Teachers determine how and when devices are used in class Keep secondary devices (phones) off school network Bring device fully charged each day Surface Expectations

6 Pull out the kickstand. No decorations or stickers are to be put on the case Please be careful with case – do not bend 180 degrees Case with Kickstand

7 Keyboard If keyboard is not responding, detach and reattach

8 Surface 3 features USB Have students take a moment to locate the different parts of the tablet. Press this to see Tiles and to wake the tablet back up after the screen turns black

9 Power on the Surface Press the button in the top left to power on.
Read the Acceptable Use Policy and click OK.

Tap in the bottom right corner to connect to the FCS-WIFI wireless If prompted, enter your username and password. Username: studentid# Password: mmddyyyy (your birthday) Enter the same username and password info to sign in to the Surface If it says fcboe below the sign in options, you will need to enter fcboestu\ before your student id# in the username box Login

11 If you see a message about updating OneDrive or JAVA, click close or cancel. Do not update at this time. Updates

12 Press Windows button to see the Tiles. These open apps and programs

13 Add Tiles to the Start Screen
Tap the Windows button Search for each of the apps below. Right click on each one and choose "Pin to Start" OneNote 2016 Camera Word 2016 You can do this for any program you use frequently Add Tiles to the Start Screen

14 Using the Internet 3 Browsers to Pick from
Edge, Internet Explorer or Chrome Most of our school resources work best in Chrome or Edge Edge will drain your battery the least of all the browsers. Using the Internet

15 Setup Outlook email Open Outlook 2016. Tap Next on the Welcome screen.
Tap Yes to connect to an account. Tap Next. Your address should show: Tap Next. Once it has finished configuring, enter your Fulton password (birthdate mmddyyyy). Check the box Remember My Credentials Tap Finish It will take a couple minutes for Outlook to finish preparing. (you can let this run in background while you do other things) Tap Use Recommended Settings. Tap Accept. On the Activate Office screen, enter your address again. Enter your password. Can take this out. If students are not able to

17 Office 365- Microsoft Office in the Cloud
You have an Office 365 account – Microsoft in the cloud Access to OneDrive for Business (file storage) Access to Office online(Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) You can access this from any device with Internet Very similar to Google Drive! Office 365- Microsoft Office in the Cloud Give students a chance to login to Office 365 online to see how they can access and create documents with Office online and their cloud storage.

Login to Office 365 online: Go to portal.office.com Username for students: Password: Fulton password (birthdate mmddyyyy) Office 365- Microsoft Office in the Cloud Give students a chance to login to Office 365 online to see how they can access and create documents with Office online and their cloud storage.

19 Once logged into Office 365 click the OneDrive icon.

Notice you can create new Word, Excel, PowerPoint files online. Create a new folder for your current class Click Upload This allows you to add existing files to your OneDrive Click Share You can search by name or enter OneDrive 1 tb of storage

21 Set up OneDrive on your Surface
Click the Windows menu and search File Explorer. This shows all the places you can save and access files. Click the OneDrive location on the left. You should be prompted to set up by logging in. Log in with your Fulton and password Choose OneDrive for Work or School if prompted. OneDrive will sync with the cloud When you view your files, notice the folder you created in the cloud is here This is where you should save all of your files/work. Surface doesn’t have a lot of local storage Set up OneDrive on your Surface

22 OneNote Setup

23 OneNote 2016 setup OneNote is a great app to keep a digital binder.
Open OneNote 2016 (desktop version and not online) It will say Connect to the Cloud. Click the top right corner to close that window. OneNote 2016 setup OneNote is a great app to keep a digital binder. If that doesn’t work, click the grey Sign In button. Then close the Sign in screen. You will NOT sign in on this screen. It is looking for a personal Microsoft account. You should be signed in to OneNote if you setup correctly. Verify that your name is displayed at the top right. If not, click Sign in at the top right corner and enter your Fulton credentials.

26 Creating Documents in the Desktop Version: Word, Excel, & PowerPoint
You can use Microsoft Office online or the desktop version installed on the Surface. If you use the desktop versions, you should still save to your OneDrive account. Let’s Practice Open Microsoft Word from All Apps. You may be prompted to tap Next a couple times. There is a Tour that can be viewed later. Tap FileSave As Should see OneDrive-Fulton County Schools. If OneDrive-Fulton County Schools does not show, click Add a Place. Select Office 365 SharePoint. Enter your Fulton address and password. Do not try to save to OneDrive – always use OneDrive- Fulton County Schools. Plain OneDrive is a personal Microsoft service and not your Fulton OneDrive account. 28 Tap the battery icon to show how much battery life is left.
Shut down the tablet at the end of each day. Tap Windows buttonPowerShut Down (it may say Update and Shut down). Allow 2-4 hours to fully charge the device. If the Surface 3 battery is drained, you’ll need to charge it for a few minutes (could take up to 10 min.) before it’ll turn on. Let the battery run to below 10% at least once per month before you recharge it. Charging the Surface
