I will update Weebly every week for assignment due dates Google Classroom will be used primarily for students Study guides Rubrics for essays Mentor texts Updates and announcements on assignments

Passes Positive reinforcement Rewards for good behavior Class DJ for a day “Stinky feet” Seat swap Chew gum in class Verbal warnings Think sheets

6 We will complete three novel units
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton; The Giver by Lois Lowry; Refugee by Alan Gratz (grade 7) The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin; Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson; Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick (grade 6) Students will need an independent reading book with them every day They can check out books from my classroom library If they struggle to find a book they want to read, I can help them find a series, genre, or author they like! Students will need to read at least one book per month of their choice Reading choice project will be due the last Friday of every month (beginning in Sept.) Students will receive sheet with dates Students will receive a choice board for projects

Punctuation Sentence types Direct and indirect speech Active and passive voice Verbals (gerunds, participles, etc) Pronouns Writing Narratives Literary analysis (evidence based writing) Descriptive (7th grade) / Persuasive (6th grade) Expository writing Research reports Poetry

8 Homework will typically be assigned if work is not finished in class
Grammar worksheets Short stories/essays Independent reading projects (monthly) I will follow the school’s late work policy 1 day late = -20%; 2 days late = -30%; 3 days late = -40%; 4+ days late = 0% Absent work Students will have as many days as they were absent to make up their work

Weighted Grades Essays = 30% Independent reading projects = 20% Homework = 20% Journals/Classwork = 10% Quizzes = 20%
