1 Warm Up Objective: Scientists will describe forensic toxicology and blood alcohol concentration by analyzing scenarios. What is the topic? What will you be doing? Why is this important? How will you know if you have done well?

2 Warm Up Objective: Scientists will describe forensic toxicology and blood alcohol concentration by analyzing scenarios. What is the topic? Forensic toxicology / blood alcohol concentration (BAC) What will you be doing? Analyzing scenarios Why is this important? Evidence for convictions, future career choice How will you know if you have done well? Able to describe forensic toxicology/BAC; analyzed scenarios accurately

3 Blood Alcohol Concentration Determination
Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC): amount of alcohol in the blood at any given time. Only thing that lowers BAC is time. Factors that affect: gender, amount ingested, weight, speed of consumption, metabolism, food (amount and type), medications Illegal to drive with BAC above 0.08. Table 1: Effects of BAC on the Body Table 2: Average BAC based on Weight and Number of Drinks

4 Scenarios Use the chart. Subtract 0.015% for each hour of drinking.
Marisa: 120 pounds, 5 drinks between 9 pm and 12 am. BAC = (chart results) – (hours drinking x 0.015) BAC = Scenario 2

5 Scenarios Use the chart. Subtract 0.015% for each hour of drinking.
Marisa: 120 pounds, 5 drinks between 9 pm and 12 am. BAC = (chart results) – (hours drinking x 0.015) BAC = 0.20 Scenario 2

6 Scenarios Use the chart. Subtract 0.015% for each hour of drinking.
Marisa: 120 pounds, 5 drinks between 9 pm and 12 am. BAC = (chart results) – (hours drinking x 0.015) BAC = – (3 x 0.015) Scenario 2

7 Scenarios Use the chart. Subtract 0.015% for each hour of drinking.
Marisa: 120 pounds, 5 drinks between 9 pm and 12 am. BAC = (chart results) – (hours drinking x 0.015) BAC = – (3 x 0.015) BAC = 0.20 – (0.045) Scenario 2

8 Scenarios Use the chart. Subtract 0.015% for each hour of drinking.
Marisa: 120 pounds, 5 drinks between 9 pm and 12 am. BAC = (chart results) – (hours drinking x 0.015) BAC = – (3 x 0.015) BAC = 0.20 – (0.045) BAC = 0.155 Scenario 2
