The Problems of DCF Estimation for human resources in sports
Artem Tretiakov

Purpose of research Improving classic methods of DFC estimation and post-performance valuation for individual players in team sports. Development of problematics in sports management and interest in academic research among GCU students.

Grounds of interest There is no clear research that we have found on any major sport in U.S. that would indicate the dependence between profit, performance and amount of salaries paid to players and coaches. Low academic interest in this subject indicates that such questions might not be included in the problematic of the sport's business society of the U.S.

Needs of industry Managers in this field are not using all the tools available in order to be rational. They can become too focused on victories. Also, talented players tend to use their “monopoly” for negotiations on higher pay. Therefore, evidence on their expected performance is needed.

State of research During our studies we conducted an overview of literature and recent research in the professional team sports industry. As a result of our findings, problems for future research have been developed. Now we are looking for teammates and support from the university in order to start our research in one of the directions indicated below.

Problematics Eric Flamholtz pointed out that after the assessment of the value of a group, Human Resource Accounting researchers should work on methods of assessment of the individual contribution to the group. In our opinion, many teams today in professional sports are using the assessment of a group value.
